Job Description:

High-Speed Depot Integration Manager

Department: Engineering/Design

Reports to: Calvert IMD Design Manager (IMD – Infrastructure Maintenance Depot)

Location: This role can be based in either Euston or Birmingham. Although the depot is located in Calvert, this is a design-related role and therefore does not require a permanent presence at the depot.

We are recruiting for a High-Speed Depot Integration Manager to join the HS2 Track infrastructure project during the initial design phase, which will run alongside the completion of main works contracts now at their peak. We are now developing the Calvert IMD design team, which will interface with the Track design team, Rail Systems, NR and Main Works Civils contracts. We will need to manage interfaces and resolve any potential issues relating to the integration of the Calvert IMD design, including earthworks, utilities, communications, rail systems and P-Way.

As High-Speed Depot Integration Manager, you will manage and coordinate all design interfaces related to the Calvert IMD, attending/organising workshops and eliciting information to inform the design delivery of the railhead, On Track Maintenance shed, Office building, ancillary buildings and external works associated with the depot facility.  These design interfaces will mainly relate to the Inter-system interfaces with the other HS2 contract packages but will also include any extra-system interfaces with third parties.

This is a hands-on role that will also cover the management of intra-system interfaces between sub-systems, initially from a constructability and maintainability perspective at design reviews, through to managing design information between supply chain package managers.

The Calvert IMD is part of the FBJV Rail Systems delivery, as such this role will engage with the Integration and Interface leads, to ensure the technical interfaces are correctly registered.

Key responsibilities

  • Establish and promote best practice in health, safety, sustainability, cost, time, buildability and quality across the Calvert IMD interface.
  • Oversee and coordinate integration of Calvert IMD Assets with FBRS Track, Rail Systems, Main Works Civils contract, HS2, East West Rail/Network Rail, and utilities, ensuring technical compatibility and early identification of constraints.
  • Coordinate specific consenting requirements as required.
  • Coordinate site-informed engineering judgement to optimise detailing, buildability, and sequencing at interfaces between Calvert IMD and interfacing parties.
  • Coordinate and manage design interfaces with construction teams, internal and external designers, ensuring that 3rd party information is made available via HS2 to meet the design delivery schedule and that integration is safe, buildable, maintainable and technically robust and compliant with contractual requirements.
  • Input into engineering workshops, assumptions process, design reviews and integration or technical steering groups.
  • Oversee the Interface Control Documents (ICDs) related to Calvert IMD and maintain clear, auditable records, working closely with the Integration and Interface lead to capture information in the Interface Management Tool (Relatics).
  • Support the resolution of interfaces, ensuring timely close-out with Main Works Civils, Rail Systems, HS2, and other stakeholders.
  • Prepare minutes, notes and technical reports to ensure transparent communication and accurate documentation.
  • Identify opportunities to improve design by incorporating buildability, quality, safety and value optimisation.
  • Support risk identification, mitigation and reporting relating to Calvert IMD integration.
  • Ensure all interface activities are managed in line with programme and escalate issues proactively where needed.
  • Maintain and promote awareness of SHE hazards and demonstrate active commitment to minimise associated risks.
  • Work location London. Attend meetings with the broader design, integration and construction teams and client in Birmingham / London, or as required.
  • Support coordination of designer CDM duties.

Who are we looking for?

  • Technical and management skills, with a positive and collaborative approach.
  • Enthusiastic team player, able to listen, understand, engage and motivate, and with confidence to make decisions when required.
  • Degree-qualified in a Construction related field or equivalent Systems related degree; Chartered or approaching Chartered status preferred.
  • Experience in Interface Management or Systems Integration, with good knowledge of structures, utilities, civils or infrastructure, ideally within a Rail environment, along with an understanding of track and signalling would be preferable.
  • Ability to interpret reports, drawings, details, and to understand their implications for the Calvert IMD assets.
  • Familiarity with interface management, technical assurance processes, assumptions management process and formal workflows for design coordination (ICDs, risk registers, change management, requirements traceability).
  • Understanding of design procedures and British/Eurocode standards
  • Preferably knowledge of HS2 processes and standards
  • Ability to work in a collaborative multidisciplinary team environment.
  • A good commercial understanding of contracts, procurement routes and risk management.
  • Strong appreciation for 3D design and BIM and digital engineering, with the ability to use model reviews to identify clashes and integration risks.
  • Excellent communication—both interpersonal and formal reporting—able to challenge constructively and influence decision-making.
  • Professional approach with clients, designers, JV partners, subcontractors and suppliers.
