We are working with a fast‑growing FX and international payments business, supporting UK and international corporate clients with currency exchange and global payments.


Founded by two co‑owners, the business has achieved impressive growth in a short space of time and is now planning ahead for its next phase of scale. To continue to support this growth, they are looking to hire a Head of Settlements for a 12 month maternity cover to support increasing client volumes and transaction activity.


About the opportunity:


As Head of Settlements, you’ll oversee the full settlements function, ensuring operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and smooth daily processing across all FX activity. You’ll manage and mentor the team, drive process improvements, and act as a key point of contact for internal stakeholders, banking partners, and counterparties.


You’ll report directly to the Chief Financial Officer and play a crucial role in maintaining the integrity and efficiency of our operational engine.


In particular, you will:                 

  • Lead and manage the Settlements team, ensuring tasks are delegated effectively and morale remains high.
  • Oversee daily operational workflows, ensuring compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Execute FX trades across BARX, Macquarie and Crown platforms .
  • Perform daily safeguarding reconciliations, escalating discrepancies to the CCO.
  • Monitor client monies, liaising with account managers where required.
  • Manage net positions, including daily sweeps and EUR reconciliation between Frankfurt and the UK.
  • Collaborate with the Tech team to enhance automation and improve system capabilities.
  • Support new projects, including testing and implementation.
  • Respond to banking partner RFIs promptly and accurately.
  • Review and finalise monthly settlements data for board submission, identifying areas for improvement.
  • Escalate support tickets with external software providers.
  • Action FX swap drawdowns/rollovers.
  • Submit and approve payments, including internal transfers and external banking platform payments.
  • Resolve transaction issues with banking partners.

Essential skills and Experience:

  • Experience in a similar role within financial services, ideally FX brokerage or payments.
  • Highly numerate, methodical, and detail‑driven.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop a team.
  • Excellent communication skills and a positive, proactive attitude.
  • Confident using Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, SharePoint) .
  • Calm under pressure, adaptable, and comfortable stepping outside your comfort zone.
  • Diligent, committed, and able to manage a varied workload.

  • A highly competitive salary between £65,000 - £75,000 depending on skills and experience.
