🔍The job 

The Head of SEO & GEO is a pivotal role in enhancing our online presence, leading our organic search visibility and discoverability strategy. Working across both the British Gas and Hive brands, you will be responsible for developing and implementing effective, future proof SEO and GEO strategies, managing the in-house and agency SEO teams, as well as collaborating with wider marketing and Centrica teams to achieve our business goals. 

This role will own the end-to-end SEO & GEO roadmap, combining technical excellence, content optimisation, and authority-building to deliver measurable growth and ensure our brands perform at the forefront of evolving search and AI-driven experiences. This is a new role so a really exciting opportunity for someone to scope, build and strengthen Centrica’s SEO & GEO capabilities as a core growth channel in our ambitious 2030 business plans. 

 

The role sits within the Marketing team, reporting to the Head of Performance as part of Centrica Home. We’re looking for a passionate and strategic candidate to lead our organic search strategy and elevate visibility across Centrica UK’s two major retail brands:  

  • British Gas: a brand rich in heritage with a bold new platform for future growth and a product offering that spans energy and home services.  

  • Hive: the innovative eco-tech brand transforming home energy – and putting power into the hands of consumers.  

Across both brands, you’ll shape how millions of people discover, engage with, and trust us online.  

 

💼 What you’ll be doing: 

  • Develop and manage Centrica’s SEO & GEO strategy to improve organic rankings & LLM visibility and translating this into a clear, actionable roadmap to be delivered by the team and across the business.  

  • Make clear and define how SEO & GEO work together, aligning to the overall discovery strategy 

  • Research and identify opportunities to improve AI search visibility while also guiding the in-house and agency to identify opportunities for content optimisation and new content creation through keyword analysis  

  • Oversee and lead on the technical SEO aspects of the websites, including site architecture, crawlability and indexation. 

  • Lead the build of robust, regular reporting for organic search to monitor and analyse the impact of actions and improvements and showcase SEO/GEO as a growth driving, profitable channel. 

  • Work closely with the wider marketing, product, brand, comms & PR teams to align SEO efforts with overall business objectives and ensure SEO best practices are integrated into all development & content processes. 

  • Lead and mentor a team of internal SEO specialists, providing guidance, support and professional development opportunities alongside leading the SEO agency relationship 

 

 Key skills and experiences required 

As a brilliant and experienced SEO Lead, you’ll bring 

  • A proven track record of driving organic growth and improving search rankings for market-leading organisations, backed by deep technical SEO expertise, content strategy, authority building and analytics. 

  • Proven expertise in AI-era discoverability, with the ability to shape strategies that increase brand visibility, citation, recommendation and influence across AI search and generative platforms 

  • Proficiency in tools like Adobe Analytics, Google Search Console and SEMrush with strong analytical capabilities 

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills leading cross functional teams as well as demonstrated leadership in managing and developing high-performing teams.  

Desirable Skills & Experience: 

  • Good commercial acumen with the ability to prioritise in a fast moving organisation 

  • Using data to make informed decisions based on analysis and industry trends. This includes deciding on the best strategies for improving search rankings and driving organic traffic. 

  • Ability to think creatively to develop new strategies and solutions that align with the latest SEO trends and algorithm updates. 

  • An understanding of the wider digital marketing space and how SEO/GEO works alongside PPC, CRM, Content and ATL media 

  • A test & learn mindset with the curiosity to try new ways of doing things, building capability and failing fast
