Reporting directly to the Head of Group Reserving, the role will lead activity on P&C reserving strategy and be a thought leader on P&C reserving topics worldwide.  The role will lead strategy development on key actuarial topics for P&C, collaborating with P&C Performance teams, Risk teams and P&C Business Unit teams.

The role will be responsible to lead a team of reserving actuaries across multiple locations, building a high-performing, expert and efficient reserving team who deliver innovation, quality & timely analytics and business insights to support delivery of the Strategic Plan.

This key leadership role requires strategic thinking capabilities, advanced leadership competence, deep actuarial best practise knowledge and analytical skills, together with a deep understanding of insurance and financial regulations across the world.

The role holder will have excellent communication skills, with a proven ability to credibly engage in COMEX and Board level discussions and manage senior internal and external stakeholder relationships.

Responsibilities

The Head of P&C Reserving will be responsible for: 

  1. Reserving strategy

    • Develop and implement a comprehensive reserving strategy for P&C aligned with the group’s strategic objectives and priorities, and the reserving governance framework.

    • Be a thought leader on optionality at hand in the short and medium term, both from a resilience management perspective and from a data, actuarial methodologies, systems/tools/processes, and reserving governance perspectives.

    • Accountable for the timely resolution of regulators / auditors’ recommendations in respect of reserving topics.

       

       

  2. Accountable for P&C Reserving accuracy, adequacy and compliance:

  • Lead delivery of the production of the IFRS17, Solvency II, local GAAP and regulatory reserves for all P&C entities and branches worldwide, including compliance with all local statutory and regulatory requirements.

  • Lead delivery of quarterly reserving analysis (Actual vs Expected, Analysis of Change, Dynamic roll forward of Annual Reviews).  In addition, drive analysis to deliver insights on Actuals vs Pricing/Plan and AvE cashflows in coordination with the P&C Performance team. 

  • Own the annual review process, ensuring strong analysis delivered by P&C reserving teams, clear coordination of activities across teams, management of activity on Group Actuarial 2nd line review and feedback loops, and ensuring SCOR Leadership has full appreciation of areas of judgement, impacts and risks.

  • Assess potential impact of reserving risk on finance/tax and capital steering under the appropriate standards in strong coordination with P&C Performance team.

  • Ensure that appropriate and auditable controls, reconciliations and documentation are maintained with respect to all P&C reserving processes.

    • Ensure reserving methodologies are continuously assessed and refined as necessary, to enhance appropriateness and relevance, notably on emerging risks or growing markets.

    • Manage the P&C Group actuarial audit activities, in coordination with Group Accounting team

    • Lead reserving activity for local regulatory examinations / audits as applicable

 

  1. Lead on transformation activities for P&C Reserving, ensuring a nimble organisation: 

    • Together with the COO team, develop and deliver on strategic initiatives to innovate, simplify and transform reserving processes, tools and analytics.

    • Drive a culture of nimbleness within the P&C Reserving organisation, ensuring fast decision making and agile allocation of talent and skills through strategic workforce planning.

    • Lead P&C reserving process and tooling innovation: driving innovation within all reserving teams worldwide, supporting & advising on initiatives, upskilling teams in new technologies and ensuring strong connection to overall Group strategy.

    • Ensure the proper development of the P&C FADM on Reserving scope in cooperation with P&C Performance and P&C Reporting and Controlling

    • Support the Head of Group Reserving in the set up and operationalization of SCOR Casablanca, including building the culture and providing strong support to the Actuarial Hub Lead to ensure successful delivery of the project.

 

  1. Foster culture of collaboration and lead P&C feed-back loop 

    • Drive a culture of collaboration across P&C Reserving team and other key stakeholder teams, including wider Finance team, P&C, Tech & Data and COO teams.

    • Manage the global relationship between P&C Reserving and P&C UW and support/analytical functions

    • Continue to embed the feedback loop process within reserving teams and deliver on supporting reserving analytics. Lead collaboration with relevant teams on operational aspects of the feedback loop in terms of data and models (to ensure a single source of truth) for this alignment to be possible and complete.

    • Together with P&C performance, lead delivery of insights on actuarial drivers of performance. Support and feed P&C Performance financial and performance analytics at a market/country level.

       

       

  2. Strategic leadership

  • Act as the senior counterpart for regulators, auditors, COMEX and Boards on P&C reserving matters for the Group.

  • Support delivery of the Strategic Plan by developing strategy on key finance topics (incl. Prudence) and delivering insightful thought leadership on actuarial topics across SCOR P&C.

  • Continue building the P&C Reserving teams worldwide into high performing teams - identifying and developing key talent within the team at all levels and providing suitable opportunities for growth of team members.

  • Support the Head of Group Reserving to develop the reserving talent pool worldwide, including strategic workforce planning for P&C reserving.

  • Foster a culture of accountability, technical excellence, pragmatism, and innovation across Reserving.

Qualifications

Required experience, education & competencies

  • Qualified Actuary with min 15 years PQE.

  • Extensive experience in reserving across IFRS17 and Solvency II.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop a team.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and proven ability to establish strong relationships with other functions across the Group.

  • Experience mentoring and developing talent within the team.

  • Proven ability to lead complex, cross‑functional initiatives in a matrix organization. 

  • Strong strategic mindset, leadership presence, and change‑agent capabilities. 

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage credibly with COMEX and Boards.

  • Excellent knowledge of P&C business 

  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills 

  • Strong ability to be seen by others as a leader and change 

    agent.
