Join our Transformation & Technology Services team – a centre of excellence at the heart of how we improve the way the NMC works.
We bring together expertise in process management, legal and operational capability, quality assurance, continuous improvement and change. We’re curious about what’s possible, including the opportunities created by new systems, tools and we work hands-on with teams across the organisation to turn good ideas into meaningful, sustainable change.
Our work reaches across the organisation, helping to make regulatory processes more timely, effective and consistent, while improving the experience of everyone involved. We combine strategic thinking with practical delivery – embedding ourselves in teams, solving complex problems and making change happen.
Now, we’re looking for an exceptional leader to help shape the future of our legal services.
Please view our statement on our careers page which gives further detail on how this role will help build the future vision of Legal Services at the NMC. You'll find this next to the job description section.
Your role & impact
This is a rare opportunity to shape how legal services are delivered across the NMC.
As Head of Legal Services Transformation, you’ll provide strategic leadership for the design and implementation of our future legal services operating model. Working closely with the General Counsel, senior legal leaders, People and Culture and colleagues across the organisation, you’ll turn an ambitious vision for legal services into a sustainable, high-performing reality.
You’ll lead the transformation of our legal services provision – looking at structures, processes, capability and ways of working, and ensuring they are fit for both today and the future. You’ll develop evidence-based options, shape design principles and governance, identify opportunities for greater effectiveness and help senior leaders make confident decisions about the future of the function.
But this role is about much more than designing a new model. You’ll lead people through change.
You’ll develop compelling approaches to engagement and change, build confidence and commitment across the legal profession, and make sure transformation is successfully adopted and sustained. You’ll work across organisational boundaries, bringing together different perspectives and creating the partnerships needed to deliver lasting impact.
You’ll also work with the General Counsel as Head of Profession to build a modern approach to legal capability, continuing professional development and knowledge management – creating the conditions for lawyers and paralegals to thrive, learn and deliver consistently high-quality legal services.
It’s a role with genuine influence and visibility. You’ll advise senior leaders, work closely with the Legal Services Steering Group and help shape a legal profession that is resilient, innovative, continuously learning and equipped for the future.
If you’re excited by transformation, enjoy bringing people with you and want to make a tangible difference to how a legal function operates, this is your opportunity to make your mark.
What you’ll bring
You’ll be an experienced transformation leader with a strong understanding of legal and regulatory environments and a track record of delivering significant change in complex, high-stakes settings.

Above all, you’ll be someone who brings clarity to complexity, inspires confidence in change and is motivated by creating a legal service that is fit for the future.

About
Our vision is for safe and effective nursing and midwifery practice across the four countries of the UK – regulated and supported by the NMC – a fit for the future organisation, with fairness and equity at the heart of everything we do. Our role is to protect the public and maintain confidence in the nursing and midwifery professions. As the largest independent regulator in Europe of more than 860,000 nursing and midwifery professionals, we have a crucial role in making this a reality. We do this by setting and promoting high education and professional standards for all future and registered nurses and midwives in the UK and nursing associates in England. We also ensure every nurse, midwife and nursing associate on our Register meets clear standards of conduct and practice which protects the public and the reputation of our professions. We have a duty to investigate concerns and to take steps to protect the public in the relatively rare instances where we need to limit or restrict a nurse, midwife or nursing associate’s right to practise. We are building a new NMC with integrity, fairness, respect, equity and effectiveness at its core. We are determined to improve and modernise our culture and ways of working. This will ensure that the public and professionals feel confident in our work.
