Head of Internal Communications

We’re looking for a strategic and inspiring Head of Internal Communications to lead our global colleague communications agenda and ensure colleagues feel informed, connected and confident about our business and culture.

This role is central to building clarity, alignment and engagement across the organisation — translating complex ideas into simple, human storytelling that strengthens understanding, trust and advocacy.

What the role will own

  • Lead the global internal communications strategy aligned to dunnhumby’s vision, brand narrative and long term ambitions.
  • Shape a clear, consistent narrative about strategy, priorities and transformation across all teams and Missions.
  • Act as a trusted adviser to the Executive team, balancing business priorities with colleague expectations.
  • Oversee governance and editorial standards for internal channels, ensuring clarity and a calm, human tone of voice.
  • Strengthen leadership visibility by shaping impactful communication moments and enabling two way dialogue.
  • Lead global colleague events that inspire, inform and reinforce strategic priorities.
  • Manage communications around transformation, change and sensitive issues with clarity and confidence.
  • Build strong partnership with Tesco Group Internal Communications.
  • Establish structured listening mechanisms — insights, feedback loops, sentiment tracking and colleague panels.
  • Champion AI enabled communications to improve productivity, personalisation and measurement.
  • Manage the internal communications budget and reporting.

Key activities

  • Help colleagues understand the changing world of retail, AI and customer behaviour — and what it means for dunnhumby.
  • Strengthen the link between internal and external communications.
  • Maintain a disciplined communication rhythm across Teams, email and the internal intranet.
  • Diagnose alignment gaps and intervene with clear narrative structure.
  • Use data led insights to track engagement and effectiveness and use that to influence strategy.
  • Provide calm, trusted communication during incidents or high pressure moments.

What we’re looking for

Experience

  • Demonstrated experience leading internal communications in a global, complex or fastmoving organisation.
  • Ability to translate strategy, transformation and technical topics into simple, human communication.
  • Strong editorial judgement and expertise in writing, storytelling and message shaping.
  • Experience partnering with senior executives and managing sensitive communication.
  • Leadership experience, including developing teams and building capability.
  • Confidence working in dynamic, fast changing environments.
  • Exposure to AI tools, digital communication platforms and data driven measurement.

Leadership style

  • Brings warmth, confidence and humility.
  • Advocates a people first approach that strengthens engagement and connection.
  • Builds trust quickly, particularly with senior leaders and teams navigating change.
  • Drives clarity, alignment and momentum across diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Demonstrates curiosity, accountability and resilience in every interaction

The challenge & opportunity

This is a pivotal role for dunnhumby, requiring someone who can:

  • Balance leader intent with colleague reality.
  • Build trust during change.
  • Influence multiple layers of communication across global Missions.
  • Tailor communications for diverse cultural contexts and time zones.
  • Maintain clarity and calm in high stakes environments.
