Howden is a global insurance group with employee ownership at its heart. Together, we have pushed the boundaries of insurance. We are united by a shared passion and no-limits mindset, and our strength lies in our ability to collaborate as a powerful international team comprised of 24,000 employees spanning over 56 countries.

People join Howden for many different reasons, but they stay for the same one: our culture. It’s what sets us apart, and the reason our employees have been turning down headhunters for years. Whatever your priorities – work / life balance, career progression, sustainability, volunteering – you’ll find like-minded people driving change at Howden.

As our business evolves, we're looking for an experienced Head of Monitoring to provide strategic oversight of our compliance monitoring framework and help shape our approach to regulatory assurance across the UK&I business.

Location: This is a flexible, hybrid/remote opportunity with travel to our London and Gloucester offices as required.

What will you be doing day to day?

This is a fantastic opportunity for a senior compliance professional looking to influence regulatory oversight across a large and diverse organisation. You'll lead our Compliance Monitoring function, working closely with senior stakeholders to provide assurance, insight and challenge, while driving continuous improvement in our compliance framework.

  • Design and deliver robust monitoring frameworks, methodologies and programmes.
  • Manage assigned projects and contribute to other projects as required.
  • Provide relevant and timely management information to the Chief Compliance Officer and the Senior Management of the Howden UK&I businesses.
  • To contribute to the Howden UK&I Compliance Plan.
  • Work with senior operational management to ensure that compliance systems and controls remain appropriate.
  • Work with the Risk Management Function to deliver support in relation to regulatory risk.

We'd love to hear from you if:

  • You have significant experience within Compliance Monitoring, Assurance, Remediation or Regulatory Advisory roles in financial services.
  • You possess strong knowledge of FCA regulations, particularly relating to health, benefits and life insurance products.
  • You have a good understanding of investment, pension and mortgage regulatory requirements.
  • You have proven experience developing and implementing monitoring frameworks and assurance programmes.
  • You're comfortable engaging, influencing and challenging stakeholders at Executive and Board level.
  • You can analyse complex regulatory information and translate it into clear, practical business recommendations.
  • You have strong report writing and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate effectively to senior audiences.
  • You have experience leading and developing compliance teams in a regulated environment.

What do we offer in return?

A career that you define. At Howden, we value diversity – there is no one Howden type. Instead, we’re looking for individuals who share the same values as us:

  • Our successes have all come from someone brave enough to try something new

  • We support each other in the small everyday moments and the bigger challenges

  • We are determined to make a positive difference at work and beyond

Reasonable adjustments

We're committed to providing reasonable accommodations at Howden to ensure that our positions align well with your needs.  Besides the usual adjustments such as software, IT, and office setups, we can also accommodate other changes such as flexible hours* or hybrid working*.

If you're excited by this role but have some doubts about whether it’s the right fit for you, send us your application – if your profile fits the role’s criteria, we will be in touch to assist in helping to get you set up with any reasonable adjustments you may require.

*Not all positions can accommodate changes to working hours or locations. Reach out to your Recruitment Partner if you want to know more.
