We are looking for a talented Packaging designer with at least 5 years’ experience in Packaging Design. Working as part of a small in-house design team you will have confidence to use your initiative to get the job done creatively and to a high standard.

Job Description

What You’ll Do as Graphic Designer

In your role, you’ll collaborate with different people across a range of skillsets. Here’s a flavour of your day-to-day: 

  • Create engaging and commercially effective packaging solutions that strengthen the Primark brand and enhance the in-store customer experience.
  • Lead packaging projects end-to-end, from interpreting briefs and developing initial concepts through to final print production and delivery.
  • Develop original packaging designs, including logos, illustrations, graphics, and other brand elements that align with creative and commercial objectives.
  • Ensure all packaging designs remain consistent with Primark's brand guidelines and visual identity across all product categories.
  • Bring fresh thinking, creativity, and innovative design solutions to a wide variety of commercial and seasonal briefs.
  • Manage multiple packaging projects simultaneously, effectively balancing priorities while meeting deadlines and business requirements.
  • Demonstrate extensive knowledge of print production processes, with a strong focus on packaging design, materials, finishes, and print specifications.
  • Collaborate closely with Buying teams and key stakeholders to ensure briefs are delivered accurately, efficiently, and within agreed timelines.
  • Work in partnership with the Packaging Design Manager to develop, refine, and execute high-quality packaging solutions.
  • Build strong working relationships and engage regularly with the Packaging Design Manager, Designers, Artworkers, Brand Team, Packaging Coordinators, wider Creative teams, and other key stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery and alignment.

Qualifications

What You’ll Bring

  • Hold a degree in Design or an equivalent qualification, with a minimum of five years' proven experience in packaging design.
  • Demonstrate a strong portfolio that showcases creativity, originality, commercial awareness, and successful packaging design projects.
  • Possess a meticulous eye for detail, with a strong commitment to accuracy, consistency, and maintaining high-quality design standards.
  • Exhibit excellent typography skills, with additional expertise in iconography and visualisation considered a strong advantage.
  • Maintain advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
  • Be capable of working effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative creative studio team.
  • Bring the energy, adaptability, initiative, and resilience required to thrive in a fast-paced and creative environment.
  • Ideally have experience within fashion retail, although this is preferable rather than essential.
  • Be highly organised and commercially minded, with strong planning, prioritisation, multitasking, and project management skills to consistently meet deadlines and business objectives.
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal, communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to influence, coach, collaborate, present complex information clearly, exercise emotional intelligence, and challenge constructively and professionally when required.
