About the Advanced Technology Group

The Advanced Technology Group (ATG) is a part of Foundational Systems and Experiences Engineering (FSEE) within the Platform Business Group. Established over 20 years ago as part of PlayStation®’s first-party game development studios, ATG has always focused on helping game developers get the most out of PlayStation® hardware - a mission that continues to this day. As a team, we are responsible for large parts of the graphics software stack used by all PlayStation® games, and collaborate with leading engineering teams worldwide, from game developers to hardware vendors, to deliver key platform technologies.

The group’s work centres around the interface between games and graphics hardware. Our job is to create a development environment – and to a degree hardware – for game teams, middleware providers, and our own platform teams. We enable other to create compelling games and technologies, so that our players get the most out of investing in our platform. When a developer implements a path-tracer, they will be using our APIs to program the GPU and build their BVH structures, our compiler to create shader microcode and our tools to debug and profile.

What you’ll be doing

  • You will be joining the team responsible for rendering APIs, shader compiler, profiler  and debugging tools used by developers to being games to PlayStation.
  • You will have the opportunity to work on multiple projects to determine which area suits you best.
  • You implement features, fix bugs, profile and optimise code, and possibly help game developers get the most of our hardware and software.
  • You will be joining early-career development events provided by the company.

This is a unique opportunity for a graduate to get to the heart of PlayStation graphics programming and to work with and learn from a highly experience team.

We are offering a 12-month fixed-term contract as part of our wider Graduate Programme within the Product and Technology group. This programme is designed to provide a structured early-career experience, combining hands-on work with dedicated development opportunities.

As part of the scheme, you will have access to a speaker series featuring leaders and experts from across the organisation, a range of training opportunities to build professional skills, and regular opportunities to connect and network with fellow graduates across the Product and Technology organisation

What we are looking for

  • A strong interest in how GPUs work and how to use them efficiently.
  • Experience in writing, debugging, and optimizing C++ code.
  • Experience with writing code that directly accesses low-level graphics APIs such as DirectX 12 or Vulkan.
  • Experience with writing shader code. Complex shading models are not required, but experience with non-trivial compute shaders is a plus.
  • A demonstrable interest in computing and computer hardware and ideally gaming consoles.
  • Experience with hardware ray-tracing is a plus.
