Vacancy: Global Laboratory Manager

Location: Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire
Work Pattern: Monday–Friday | 36 hours per week

As we celebrate this milestone, we’re continuing to invest in our people, our laboratories and our technical capabilities and we’re now looking for a Global Laboratory Manager to join us in our Hemel Hempstead testing laboratory.

About the Role:

The Global Laboratory Manager is responsible for the operational leadership, performance, and strategic development of the Hemel Hempstead laboratory, operating under ISO 17025.

This role combines day-to-day accountability for delivery with a forward-looking strategic focus, ensuring the laboratory operates efficiently, meets commercial targets, maintains high-quality standards, and evolves to support future business needs.

The role leads local operations while contributing to global alignment, standardisation, and capability growth across the laboratory network.

You’ll be a key presence and driving force across the laboratory, providing support, direction and improvement across lab operations and compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

Operational Leadership

Lead the safe, efficient and profitable delivery of laboratory operations, ensuring excellent customer outcomes, effective resource planning and operational resilience.

Financial & Commercial Performance

Own laboratory financial performance through effective budget management, resource utilisation and operational efficiency, while supporting business growth.

People & Culture

Create an engaged, high-performing team through coaching, performance management, succession planning and continuous professional development.

Quality & Compliance

Maintain exceptional quality standards through ISO 17025 compliance, audit readiness, robust governance and a right-first-time culture.

Operational Improvement

Identify opportunities to improve productivity, standardise processes, implement best practice and support digital transformation across laboratory operations.

Stakeholder & Customer Leadership

Develop trusted partnerships with customers, 3rd party labs, commercial teams and technical specialists to ensure outstanding service delivery and future growth.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Degree, HNC, HND or equivalent technical qualification
  • Significant experience leading a laboratory or operational testing environment
  • Strong understanding of ISO 17025 and quality management systems
  • Proven ability to manage financial performance (budget & margin)
  • Experience leading teams and developing organisational capability
  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills
  • Solid understanding of testing, certification, and industry standards
  • Commercial awareness and ability to balance cost, quality, and delivery
  • Experience driving process improvements and operational efficiency
  • Confident in data-driven decision-making and performance reporting
