Position Overview: The Global Finance and Accounting Manager’s responsibilities include reconciling account balances and bank statements, maintaining the general ledger, and preparing month-end close procedures for assigned entities/locations within Equality Now. Global Finance and Accounting Manager combines excellent analytical skills with a thorough knowledge of accounting principles to analyze financial reports and forecasts. They also work to ensure accuracy and effectiveness in all accounting tasks. The Global Finance and Accounting Manager reports to the Global Director of Finance and Administration and has experience collaborating and/or managing a team of accountants. Annually, the Global Finance and Accounting Manager will be responsible for the successful implementation of a new process or a system to improve EN’s systemic setup. These special projects, whether defined here or not, will be an integral part of the position description and will directly impact the organization’s structural health.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Manage AP Accounting Assistant and Africa Finance Manager
- Review and verify allocation of all bills and invoices within SageIntacct processed in the US, UK and Kenya, set-up or approve payments and process all bills and invoices
- Verify, allocate, post, and accrue monthly income receivable (if needed), oversee the processing of payments and deposits
- Reconcile accounts payable and receivable on a monthly basis by maintaining monthly schedules
- Reconcile all bank accounts and employee advances; address outstanding amounts as appropriate
- Produce error-free accounting reports and schedules as directed
- Analyze financial information and summarize the financial status of each location
- Spot errors and suggest ways to improve efficiency and spending
- Provide technical support and advice to the organization’s staff on best practices for bill and invoice submission
- Review and recommend modifications to accounting systems and procedures to the Global Director of Finance and Administration
- Review all contracts for the US and UK locations
- Post monthly activities of the investment accounts based on backup
- Post payroll reports to the accounting system
- Collaborate with Subgrants Coordinator on subgrants related expense posting matters
- Collaborate with Global Budgets and Reporting Manager on budget administration, grant and expense reclassifications and process postings
- Collaborate with Global HR and Administrative Manager on HR matters and onboarding (when needed)
- Collaborate with Global Operations Manager on events related accounting matters
- Prepare intercompany accounts reconciliation for intercompany activities on monthly basis
- Oversee organizational audit for the US and UK and provide support in organizational and grant-related audits for all of Equality Now's locations
- Prepare and file annual reporting with statutory organizations for the US and UK
- Assist in the annual renewal of insurance policies for the location and organization as a whole
- Prepare reports, review accounting books, and in collaboration with the Global Director of Finance and Administration participates in month-end, quarter-end and year-end close process
- Process ACH templates for approval within organization’s banking
- Ensure compliance with GAAP/IFRS principles as appropriate
- Produce annual Misc-1099 forms for assigned organizations/locations
- Lead assigned organization-wide systems upgrade projects annually
- Other ad-hoc reports and tasks as assigned by the Global Director of Finance and Administration
Qualifications:
- BS or BBA degree in Accounting, Finance or relevant field
- 8+ years of hands-on experience in all areas of the Finance Department
- Thorough knowledge of accounting procedures and in-depth understanding of Generally
- Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) as well as International Financial Reporting
- Standards (IFRS)
- Experience in intercompany activities and eliminations
- Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process
- Hands-on experience with accounting software packages, like SageIntacct
- Advanced MS Excel skills including Vlookups and pivot tables
- Accuracy and attention to detail
- Relevant certification (e.g. CMA or CPA) will be preferred
