Leads refined-products oil trading by managing client and broker flows, pricing and hedging transactions, developing fundamental and technical trading ideas, managing nonlinear and secondary-book risk, marking forward curves, and providing market commentary. The role requires disciplined commodities risk-taking, strong oil-market knowledge, client engagement, robust controls, and programming capability in Python or SQL.
As a Vice President or Executive Director on the Global Oil Trading team, you will be responsible for driving performance via appropriate use of VAR around flows, capitalizing client flow through sales desk and market flow via brokers, ensuring client value monetization. You will play a crucial role in oil fundamental analytics within oil complex and contribute significantly to revenue maximization.
Job responsibilities
- Drive performance via risk taking around client and broker market flows
- Manage accurately and competitively price client transactions and efficiently hedge to maximize franchise revenue.
- Work alongside sales colleagues to engage clients, providing market color and derivative hedging strategies.
- Develop trading ideas based on educated views incorporating fundamental and technical analysis.
- Assist risk managing trading books that include non-linear risk.
- Appropriately size and risk manage positions to create profitable trading strategies based on franchise flow.
- Perform daily desk functions, including marking forward curves, providing market commentary and hedging secondary trading book exposure (FX/interest rates/etc.)
Required Qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Demonstrated track record of disciplined risk-taking performance in commodities markets
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or a related discipline
- Strong understanding of oil and refined product fundamentals and key market drivers
- Ability to assess, explain, and manage risk across positions and market events
- Ability to stay client-focused while operating effectively under competitive market pressure
- Proven ability to operate in a dynamic, fast-paced, and collaborative trading environment
- Strong controls mindset with commitment to robust risk and conduct standards
- Strong programming capability in Python, SQL, and/or another relevant language
Preferred Qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Demonstrable experience interacting with major institutional / corporate commodity clients.
- Option and/or systematic risk taking experience a plus
