About the FCA and team 

We regulate financial services firms in the UK, to keep financial markets fair, thriving and effective. By joining us, you’ll play a key part in protecting consumers, driving economic growth, and shaping the future of UK finance services. 

SPC oversees firms and individuals (supervision), creates and reviews the rules by which they operate (policy) and identifies and remedies ineffective competition in markets (competition). You’ll help shape a growing supervision function that combines quantitative fund screening with qualitative analysis to support fair, transparent and competitive financial markets.

In this role, you’ll work closely with colleagues to monitor investment funds, respond to emerging risks and contribute to sector-wide and event-driven initiatives. Your work will sit at the heart of asset management, influencing outcomes for households and financial markets across the UK and beyond. Role responsibilities

  • Contribute to the design, development and ongoing improvement of a data-led fund supervision framework that supports informed decision-making to influence positive change across the asset management sector

  • Work with large datasets to uncover insights, identify trends or risks and clearly communicate findings to guide next steps

  • Collaborate with firm supervisors to provide timely market and product intelligence that strengthens industry engagement

  • Respond to emerging issues and developments in the fund sector through event-driven, reactive supervision work gaining the ability to develop your skills in supervision, regulation and stakeholder engagement in a supportive team environment

  • Build trusted relationships with firms and fund managers to positively influence conduct and drive better outcomes for customers

  • Partner with Fund Authorisations and Policy teams to support their goals and contribute to continuous improvement across the department

Skills required

Minimum:

  • Prior experience identifying investment or risk challenges and implementing changes that led to meaningful improvements

  • Demonstrable experience of coding (including building solutions from scratch), in one or more programming language such as Python, or a statistical language such as R

  • Prior experience in asset management, or consultancy, or regulation, or experience of risk management in a non-related industry

Essential:

  • Understanding of the FCA’s purpose and role in supporting fair and effective financial markets and awareness of the legal, regulatory and organisational landscape of asset management industry

  • Strong interpersonal skills to build trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders

  • Willingness to work both independently and collaboratively to achieve shared goals

  • Confidence in solving problems by exploring options and developing thoughtful, outcome-focused solutions

  • Ability to communicate complex or technical issues clearly and accessibly to a range of audiences

  • Independent thinking and sound judgement to reach timely and well-reasoned conclusions

  • Effective influencing skills, with the confidence to challenge constructively and support change in a fast-paced environment

  • Experience of building Tableau Dashboards or using SQL or similar to extract data or a data related degree
