Our Mission
Human time and effort is the rarest thing in the universe. The fact that so many people hate what they do for work is a disaster on so many levels. How many people live quiet lives of misery? How many generational talents do we miss due to circumstance?

Dex’s mission is to close the gap between Talent & Opportunity, we believe that work, and being productive, is part of the human condition, that regardless of AI, human passion, ingenuity and a desire to do things means that work will always exist.

We are building Dex to create a future where technology helps every individual to understand their strengths, interests and unique abilities, and to connect with opportunities where they can thrive, because more people doing things they love leads to a better, happier and more productive world.
We are starting by connecting the world's most ambitious software engineers with the companies that deserve them.

The Role

Dex runs on data. Our matching, our product decisions, our growth, our commercial bets all depend on understanding what's actually happening across the business, and right now that intelligence lives in too many places.

This role exists to fix that. You'll take raw data from across our stack and turn it into a single, trusted picture of the business that people and agents can build on. That means data modelling first and foremost: working out what the messy parts of the raw data really mean, reconciling records across systems, and agreeing definitions with the people who use them.

It's the part of data work that AI can't do on its own, because it depends on deep business context, and it's where we need someone exceptional. The loading and refresh framework is already being built, so you'll spend your time in the data and with the people who rely on it, not standing up infrastructure from scratch.

We use agents for a huge amount of our analytical work, which makes the quality of the data layer a force multiplier. Get it right and every person and every agent at Dex gets faster and sharper. As our first dedicated data hire, you'll set the standards for how an AI-native company builds on its data. We think there's a generational comp

What You’ll Do

  • Core data modelling: Design and own the core data models that everything else depends on, making them clean, trusted and easy to build on.

  • Definitions and metrics: Turn ambiguous business questions into the right model, metric and answer. When five people have five definitions of churn, you'll bring them together, land on one, and build it properly.

  • Partner with the business: Work closely with talent ops, leadership and the wider team to understand the problems they're solving.

  • Dashboards and analytics: Build the dashboards and analysis people need now, while steadily moving the team towards self serve.

  • Architecture and standards: Shape how our data is structured and set the standards for data quality, definitions and instrumentation across Dex.

  • Agents as consumers: Treat agents as first-class users of the data layer, structuring data so they can do analytical work accurately and at scale.

  • Pipelines: Plug new sources into our existing loading framework and keep data flowing reliably. Less of the job, but it needs to be done well.

What We're Looking For

  • You're an excellent data modeller. You've taken messy data from multiple systems and turned it into models a business trusts and builds on.

  • You're strong on architecture and know your way around a modern analytics stack (a cloud warehouse, dbt or similar, orchestration and BI). You have views on what to use when, and you'll tell us where our current choices are right and where they aren't.

  • You genuinely enjoy working with people. You're happy spending a lot of your time with stakeholders: mediating definitions, building dashboards, following up on requests and getting buy-in. You see that as part of the job, not a distraction from it.

  • You're diligent. Getting a model 80% done is easy; you care about getting it right, because you know how much a badly built model costs later.

  • You're curious about the business. You're excited by what Dex does and want to understand the problems your colleagues are trying to solve, not just the query they've asked for.

  • You can find your way around a codebase you didn't write, and you're comfortable reading how a system models and emits its data.

  • You think about the platform, not just the one-off answer. You build things other people (and agents) can stand on.

  • You're intelligent, ambitious and have strong judgement. A good person who's fun to work with and makes things happen without being asked.

What We Offer

  • Above market salary — we're building a world class team and believe pay should match that ambition

  • Significant equity — we want this to be the last job you 'have' to take

  • Full private healthcare & dental — because life happens and we want to support you

  • Fertility benefits & enhanced parental support

  • Gym membership & wellness benefits

  • Claude tokens — lots and lots of Claude tokens

  • Regular socials, offsites and an annual trip

  • MacBook Pro + team kit

  • "Whatever you need" approach to tools and support

Interview process

We move quickly and with conviction. Broadly you can expect:

  1. We love it when candidates have experimented with our agent, Dex. Even if you aren't an Engineer, you can get a sense of what we're building, and we love to hear your feedback.

  2. A 30m video call with our Internal Talent Lead; we'll share more about the team, role and business before asking questions about your experience and fit.

  3. Hiring Manager call: we'll share more specific context on short and medium-term objectives and ask deeper questions relative to the role requirements.

  4. Most roles involve a practical task to better understand how you work. Usually completed offline and reviewed by the team.

  5. Onsite interview loop where you'll visit the office, meet a cohort of the team, one interview centred on the task you produced, another on Dex culture and values, with a final interview with our Founder, Paddy.
