Bristol/Hybrid (3 days a week in-person)

An outstanding secondment opportunity is available with the Submarine Delivery Enterprise in Bristol.

This role offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of the UK’s Submarine Enterprise by driving meaningful, cross-industry collaboration and improvement. You will have exposure to executive leadership across organisational boundaries, broadening their understanding of our wider enterprise portfolio and deliver meaningful, best-for-enterprise change.

This exciting role is at the heart of one of the UK’s most complex and vital defence programmes where you will be responsible to a respective MOD 2* functional director and forum of pan-enterprise leadership coordinating transformation, change initiatives and the development of strategic solutions.

What team you will be working in

You will be joining the Submarine Delivery Enterprise (SDE) - a collaborative team connecting together Tier 1 Industrial Partners (Rolls-Royce, Babcock, BAE Systems) within the submarine enterprise.

The SDE team work together to address strategic and shared challenges across the Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA) portfolio with the goal of bringing clear, honest insights to the table and present those as opportunities for enterprise change through the sponsorship and action of our enterprise leadership.

The SDE operate under direct mandate from the SDA CEO and are governed by the Submarine Delivery Leadership Board (SDLB) - a forum of Tier-1 Industrial Partner Managing Directors (or equivalents), and a cross-section of 2-3*s from the main MoD entities engaged on the Defence Nuclear Enterprise (DNE) programme. 

As part of the SDE, a Functional Capability Framework (FCF) is being rolled out, which consists of nine functional capability forums led by MoD 2*s. These forums are designed to enhance collaboration across the enterprise by bringing together Industry Partners.

In this role you will be working as a Forum Facilitator to jointly deliver change across these 9 functional capability fora.

The nine Forums to be operated are: Engineering and Safety Commercial Supply Chain Infrastructure Finance Data and Digital Manufacturing Operations Security People

What you will be doing

As a Forum Facilitator working in the FCF under the SDE you will have opportunities to develop and apply yourself to deliver Best for Enterprise outcomes through the following:

  • Lead and Coordinate – Provide strategic guidance and coordination by leading the forum towards clear, agreed outcomes, aligning priorities with MoD 2* and industry directors, and supporting leadership decision-making through established governance frameworks.
  • Drive Transformation and Continuous Improvement – Oversee delivery by removing barriers and sharing best practices, identify opportunities by addressing risks and fostering improvement ideas, and lead change through readiness workshops, planning sessions, and engagement forums.
  • Foster Inclusive Collaboration and Team Alignment – Cultivate an open and productive environment by facilitating cross-functional teamwork to address challenges, ensuring discussions remain inclusive, balanced, and focused.
  • Manage Impacts – Assess change risks and shape mitigation strategies
  • Communicate Clearly – Hold briefings and feedback sessions with consistent messaging

Who we’re looking for:

To be successful in this role and deliver with pace you will need experience in:

  • Driving delivery of improvement/change projects across diverse teams.
  • Communicating with confidence and effectively translating complex information with clarity.
  • Engaging, influencing and motivating diverse stakeholders.
  • Applying strategic thinking to convert complex goals into actionable plans
  • Lateral thinking and collaborative nature to deliver challenging goals.

Having experience in any of the nine functional capability areas would be advantageous but is not necessary.

To work for the Rolls-Royce Submarines business an individual has to hold a Security Check clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you do not currently already have this in place. Due to the nature of work the business conducts and the protection of certain assets we can only progress applications from individuals who are a UK national or, in MoD approved cases, a dual national.
