The Opportunity
We are now recruiting for a First Line Manager.
As a First Line Manager, you will play a critical role in delivering safe and reliable production by leading shift operations within your production area. You will manage day-to-day manufacturing activities, make operational decisions within your remit, and lead a team of operators to deliver the short-term production plan while meeting quality, safety and environmental standards
You’ll be supported with personalised on the job training, coaching, mentoring and twice-yearly development and performance reviews to help maintain & develop your contributions and competence.
Key Responsibilities
- Sustain a high level of personal SHE awareness within the plant operating teams to ensure compliance with safety, health, and environmental regulations at all times. Ensure compliance with all Process Safety Management-related procedures and established working methods, report all process safety incidents and hazards, and contribute to incident investigations.
- Ensure all required products are manufactured in accordance with the production plan, achieving the required quality standards and making the most effective use of available resources.
- Be responsible for the management and leadership of a team of Operators, including recruitment, training (including competency validation), development, and motivation, with the aim of continuously improving performance in productivity and safety, health, and environmental (SHE) standards.
- Ensure all operations are carried out in accordance with standard operating procedures.
- In the event of a site incident, undertake duties as directed by the Works Incident Controller as part of the Emergency Response Team.
- Emergency situations may require an element of autonomy within the role to bring a situation under control. However, under no circumstances should company procedures or key risk control systems be bypassed.
- Participate in safety audits, HAZOPs, COSHH assessments, and risk assessments. Participate in safety investigations and reporting processes as required.
- Liaise with the Maintenance Department to organise and prioritise plant repairs and planned maintenance activities, ensuring they are completed effectively to minimise production downtime within the area of responsibility. Participate in the initiation and implementation of plant and process modifications.
- Prepare plant equipment and permits prior to any planned engineering work, hot work, or vessel entry activities.
- Maintain accurate raw material and finished product inventories through timely and accurate data entry into the ERP system.
- Liaise with the Supply Chain team to ensure sufficient raw materials are available to maintain production requirements. Liaise with external suppliers outside normal working hours when required.
- Work in conjunction with the Plant Manager, Process Improvement Group, and Quality Control (QC) team to identify and resolve quality issues and support the commissioning and introduction of new processes.
- Implement company policies, disciplinary procedures, and the general terms and conditions of employment.
- Maintain a high standard of housekeeping across all relevant areas and manage the assigned 5S areas of responsibility.
- Ensure all process waste streams are minimised and disposed of in accordance with current company procedures.
Minimum Requirements
- A technical qualification (HND/ONC) or equivalent work experience within Chemical Manufacturing
- Level 4 Process Leader Apprenticeship
- IOSH Managing Safety Programme
- Highfield Level 3 Award in Assessing Competence in the Workplace
- Highfield Level 3 Award in Delivering Training
