As a Financial Crime Analytics Consultant, you’ll play a key role in protecting Nationwide and its members by helping to prevent and detect fraud and scams across our portfolio. Joining a high-performing Fraud Analytics team, you’ll work with colleagues and stakeholders from across the business to enhance our fraud detection capabilities, optimise prevention systems, develop new detection rules, and continuously monitor and improve existing controls.

We're looking for someone with experience using SQL, SAS or similar coding languages within a financial services environment, alongside a background in Economic Crime, Fraud, or Anti-Money Laundering. You’ll bring strong analytical skills, including advanced Excel knowledge, a deep understanding of fraud and scam typologies, and insight into payment processes. Just as importantly, you’ll be a collaborative and curious individual who enjoys working with others, embraces new challenges, and is motivated to learn, grow, and make a meaningful impact within our Economic Crime function and the wider business.

We are happy to consider flexible working approaches to help you perform at your best.
This is an 18-month Fixed Term Contract opportunity.

At Nationwide we offer hybrid working wherever possible. More rewarding relationships are supported through our hybrid approach, bringing colleagues together across our UK wide estate, whilst also supporting generous access to home working. We value our time in the office to solve problems, to learn, and to feel connected.

For this role, you'll be based at your nearest regional office or hub. We value time spent together to connect with colleagues for collaboration so there will be a regular requirement to attend our Swindon site approximately once a quarter. If you are based at an office location, you'll be expected to meet our hybrid working requirement of at least two days a week, or 40% of your working time if part-time, in the office. If you’re based at our Glasgow office, this will apply from 1 April 2027 and ahead of that there will be a need to regularly connect with colleagues for collaboration events. If your application is successful, your hiring manager will provide further details on how this works.

If we receive a high volume of relevant applications, we may close the advert earlier than the advertised date, so please apply as soon as you can.

Responsibilities

What you’ll be doing

In this role, you’ll help protect both Nationwide and its members by developing and enhancing fraud detection strategies that identify suspicious activity and reduce exposure to financial loss. Using your financial crime expertise and strong analytical skills, you’ll monitor detection performance, interrogate complex data, and take ownership of solutions that improve the effectiveness of fraud prevention controls.

As fraud and payment trends continue to evolve, you’ll play a key role in shaping responses to emerging threats through strategic thinking, innovation, and continuous improvement. We’re looking for someone who is adaptable, curious, and proactive, with the creativity to challenge existing approaches and the drive to deliver smarter, more effective outcomes.

About you

As a minimum requirement you’ll need:

  • Proven experience within Economic Crime, Fraud, Anti-Money Laundering (AML) or a related financial crime environment

  • Adept knowledge of fraud and scam typologies, payment journeys, and the controls used to detect and prevent financial crime

  • Experience coding in SQL, SAS, or other languages such as Python or C#

  • Excellent Excel skills for data analysis, including pivot tables and VLOOKUP

  • Experience using fraud detection systems such as Actimize, SIRA, Biocatch and PRM or comparable systems

  • Solid communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence, challenge constructively, and present technical information clearly to a non-technical audience

  • Excellent organisational and problem-solving abilities, with the confidence to make recommendations, manage competing priorities, and drive continuous improvement initiatives

Our customer first behaviours put customers and members at the heart of how we work together. They are the set of behaviours that every colleague needs to display, in every role:

  • Feel what customers feel - We step into our customers’ shoes, using their feedback and insights to empathise with them and to understand their needs, so that every decision we make starts and finishes with our customers in mind

  • Say it straight - We are brave in speaking out and saying what we think – we’re honest and direct with good intent, openly sharing diverse perspectives to reach the best conclusions and using language everyone can understand

  • Push for better - We don’t settle for mediocrity, we challenge the status quo, taking responsibility for continuous improvement and personal development

  • Get it done - We prioritise what will have the greatest impact, we are decisive, and we take accountability for delivering brilliant customer outcomes

You can strengthen your application by showing how our customer first behaviours resonate with you, and where you may have already demonstrated these.
