Own month-end close, deliver accurate management accounts and commentary, maintain reconciled balance sheet, manage multi-currency accounting, design financial controls, oversee AP/AR and billing, support budgeting/forecasting and cash planning, handle VAT/statutory filings and payroll, and improve/automate finance systems and processes.
Somerce is a TikTok Shop specialist agency driving GMV growth for some of the fastest-growing beauty, fashion, lifestyle and FMCG brands across the UK, US and EU — from live commerce and affiliates to paid media and trading strategy.
We're scaling fast across markets and currencies, and we're looking for a hands-on Financial Controller to be the operational backbone of our finance function. Reporting directly to the CFO, you'll own the integrity of the numbers, keep the close tight, and build the controls and processes that let us scale. This is a high-ownership role with direct leadership exposure and real room to grow.
Key Responsibilities
- Own month-end close and deliver accurate management accounts and commentary to deadline
- Maintain a clean, well-reconciled balance sheet with rigorous supporting schedules
- Manage multi-currency accounting across the UK, US and EU
- Design and operate the financial controls framework as the business scales
- Oversee AP, AR, payment runs, billing accuracy and credit control against collection targets
- Support budgeting, forecasting and cash flow planning, and report on the metrics that matter (margin by client, GMV-linked revenue, variances)
- Own VAT returns, statutory filings and payroll; ensure ongoing regulatory compliance
- Improve and automate finance systems and processes as we grow
About You
- Fully qualified accountant (ACCA, ACA or equivalent)
- Big 4 background is a must
- 3–6 years' experience, including time in a commercial/industry finance role post-practice
- Strong technical accounting and a controls-led mindset, with proven ownership of month-end close and statutory reporting
- Experience with cloud accounting software (Xero, QuickBooks, NetSuite or similar)
- Confident with Excel and Google Workspace (G-Suite) — Sheets, Docs, Drive
- Fluent with Claude and similar AI tools — you reach for them to speed up analysis, drafting and process automation
- Experience in a digital agency, professional services, ecommerce, DTC or high-growth scale-up
- Hands-on, pragmatic and happy to own your workload in a fast-paced, low-bureaucracy environment
- Confident communicator who can explain finance clearly to non-finance stakeholders
Requirements
Essential
- Proven experience in a finance or accounts role, ideally in a fast-paced or agency environment
- Strong working knowledge of bookkeeping, accounts payable and accounts receivable
- Experience with accounting software (e.g. Xero, QuickBooks or similar)
- High attention to detail and a methodical approach to financial records
- Comfortable working independently and taking ownership of your workload
- Strong communication skills - able to explain financial information clearly to non-finance stakeholders
Desirable
- Part-qualified or fully qualified (AAT, CIMA, ACCA or equivalent)
- Experience working in a digital agency, ecommerce or startup environment
- Exposure to multi-currency accounting
- Experience supporting budgeting and forecasting processes
