About Us

Equals Money is a fast-growing fintech company on a mission to make money movement simple for businesses around the world. Headquartered in the heart of London at Vintners' Place, we provide over 30,000 businesses with a powerful suite of financial tools - from multi-currency accounts and international payments to prepaid corporate cards and spend management software.

Reporting to the Director of Accounting and Financial Operations, this is a broad and substantive role at the centre of the Finance function. If you are an ACA-qualified accountant who thrives on ownership, precision, and continuous improvement, this is the role for you.

The Role

We're looking for an experienced and commercially sharp Financial Controller to join our finance team. You'll be responsible for the integrity of our financial reporting, ownership of core accounting operations, and ensuring robust financial controls across the business. This is more than a traditional finance role - we need a forward-thinking finance professional who combines technical rigour with a proven track record of driving meaningful finance transformation. This is a high-impact role, working closely with the Director of Accounting and Financial Operations to support Equals Money's continued growth.

What You’ll Do

Financial Control and reporting

  • Own the month-end close process, producing accurate and timely management accounts and financial statements

  • Prepare analysis on movements in key general ledger accounts

  • Ensure full compliance with UK GAAP / IFRS, FCA regulations, and relevant payment services legislation

  • Manage statutory reporting, external audit relationships, and tax filings (VAT, corporation tax)

  • Operate in a high control environment, reviewing and preparing monthly balance sheet reconciliations and resolving any differences

  • Maintain and continuously improve the internal financial controls framework

  • Partner with Finance Business Partnering team to deliver meaningful financial insight and support strategic decision-making

  • Coaching and developing team members

Finance Transformation

  • Drive process improvement and automation initiatives across the finance function

  • Identify and assess inefficiencies across core finance processes

  • Optimise the use of finance technologies such as NetSuite

  • Champion the adoption of new technologies including automation, digital reporting tools, and AI-enabled analytics

  • Drive the standardisation and simplification of finance processes across business units or geographies

  • Drive the shift from manual, transactional finance operations to a data-led, insight-driven function

Key Stakeholders

The role is primarily Finance-facing. Day-to-day you will work closely with the Director of Accounting and Financial Operations and the wider Finance team, with interaction across treasury, legal, IT and operations as needed to support the reporting, control and transformation agenda. Externally you will have engagement with the Auditors.

What We’re Looking For

Essential:

  • ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualified (or equivalent) with at least 2 years post-qualified experience, ideally gained in practice followed by a move into a corporate or fintech environment.

  • Strong technical accounting knowledge (UK GAAP / IFRS)

  • Significant experience in finance transformation, process improvement, or finance change management within a complex organisation

  • Strong understanding of finance operations, processes, and best practice across the full finance lifecycle

  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, scaling business environment

  • Excellent attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with ERP-based general ledgers; NetSuite experience is a meaningful advantage.

  • Experience in a regulated financial services environment (FCA-regulated businesses preferred)

  • Interbank currency rates on travel money and international transfers.

  • AXA Private Healthcare.

  • Free Eye Test and £50 up to the cost of glasses.

  • EAP Service - Mental Health Services.

  • Life Assurance Policy - x4 annual salary.
