POSITION SUMMARY:

The Finance Trainee role is within the Global FP&A and Regulatory Reporting team, with a focus primarily on Regulatory Reporting for European entities of RenaissanceRe. The Assistant Accountant is responsible for supporting the financial accounting, internal controls, budgeting, planning and forecasting, and financial reporting within Regulatory Reporting. The Finance Trainee has close interaction across multiple areas of the business and works with the wider Global Finance Team to add value across relevant teams.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Regulatory Reporting

  • Assist in the preparation of accurate financial reporting, both for internal and external purposes following required GAAP and regulatory reporting standards and requirements. Specific focus on Lloyd’s regulatory and monitoring submissions, solvency reporting and statutory financial statements.
  • Assist with completing aspects of the monthly and/or quarterly close.
  • Work with relevant partners to ensure accuracy of transactions and financial disclosure.
  • Support the continued enhancement and ongoing development of multiple financial systems ensuring that all reporting needs are met.
  • Other tasks as necessary to support day to day functioning of the department.
  • Liaise with internal and external auditors.
  • Working with users across multiple functions to generate the reporting on a timely basis

Financial Planning and Analysis  

  • Assist in the analysis of regional results for management and board reporting
  • Support the regional annual budgeting process as well as support the Syndicate Business Forecasting Process
  • Support business partnering to add value across relevant teams
  • Contribute to project work and provide general assistance to the Finance Department and other teams as needed

EXPECTED COMPETENCIES:

Educational/Professional Requirements:

  • Desire to complete professional accountancy qualification (e.g. ACCA) - essential
  • Degree in Accountancy/Finance or similar (e.g. Economics with Finance, Maths with Finance, Business Management) – preferable but not necessary.

Basic Competencies:

  • Vocational or technical education in addition to prior work experience preferred. 
  • Excellent numerical skills and keen attention to detail
  • Strong Excel skills essential
  • Applies strong technical skills and problem solving to achieve results
  • Confident with both virtual and in-person communication
  • Obtains feedback, learns from others’ experiences and takes responsibility for honing skills to improve job performance. 
  • Regularly shares information and engages in dialogue with manager and peers 
  • Works toward team goals and end result and contributes in ways that benefit the entire team. 
  • Consistently meets expectations excels when it matters most and responds quickly and effectively to resolve issues. 
  • Remains open to new thinking and ideas, and views situations from multiple perspectives.
