We have an exciting opportunity for two Finance Managers to join our Accounting and Reconciliations Transformation team. The team provides subject‑matter expertise in accounting and reconciliations to programmes and projects across the Society, playing a critical role in major systems transformations and the integration of Virgin Money systems.
This is a period of significant change and growth, and we are seeking to strengthen the team with high‑calibre individuals.
As Finance Manager, you will be accountable for engaging with large and complex change programmes, delivering changes to accounting models and reconciliation processes. You will ensure that all opportunities are taken to simplify processes and to enhance the integrity, efficiency, and accuracy of financial reporting and controls.
These roles require solid leadership in executing the team’s vision and strategic direction. You will lead the embedding of control excellence and build enduring relationships with key stakeholders across the business.
We are happy to consider flexible working approaches to help you perform at your best.
The working hours (per week) for this role can be between 28 and 35 hours.
At Nationwide, we offer hybrid working wherever possible. More rewarding relationships are supported through our hybrid approach, bringing colleagues together across our UK-wide estate, whilst also supporting generous access to home working. We value our time in the office to solve problems, to learn, and to feel connected.
For this job, you'll spend at least two days per week, or if part-time, you'll spend 40% of your working time, based at either our Swindon or London office. We will also consider Glasgow as a location, noting this is a hub. Whilst these locations are where we are primarily looking to fill the role, if you’re an internal applicant based in a different location, we would welcome your application, and if successful, your hiring manager will provide further details on how this could work for this specific role. You can also find out more about our approach to hybrid working here.
If we receive a high volume of relevant applications, we may close the advert earlier than the advertised date, so please apply as soon as you can.
ResponsibilitiesWhat you’ll be doing
In this role, you will work closely with major change programmes to redesign, test, and embed new accounting and reconciliation processes across a broad range of product and payment journeys. You will play a key role in supporting integration activities between Virgin Money and Nationwide, helping to ensure processes and controls are aligned, robust and fit for the future.
You’ll drive improvements across upstream and Finance systems to simplify and strengthen financial accounting and control frameworks, enabling greater efficiency and resilience. Operating within an agile environment, you will be expected to make well‑judged decisions at pace, balancing time, quality, and cost. Alongside this, you will demonstrate effective leadership by coordinating delivery across multiple stakeholders, managing competing priorities and maintaining momentum in a continuously changing environment.
About you
For this role, you will have/be:
- A relevant accountancy qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent), with significant post-qualification experience

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including an attention to detail
- Well-rounded stakeholder management and relationship‑building capability
- The ability to work independently, setting your own priorities and weekly goals, proactively keeping relevant stakeholders informed
- A proven track record of contributing to large projects and/or delivering change
- Experience of working within formal change governance frameworks (e.g. RAID management, control sign-off, change approvals)
- A background of working within a large, regulated organisation

Feel what customers feel - We step into our customers’ shoes, using their feedback and insights to empathise with them and to understand their needs, so that every decision we make starts and finishes with our customers in mind
Say it straight - We are brave in speaking out and saying what we think – we’re honest and direct with good intent, openly sharing diverse perspectives to reach the best conclusions and using language everyone can understand
Push for better - We don’t settle for mediocrity, we challenge the status quo, taking responsibility for continuous improvement and personal development
Get it done - We prioritise what will have the greatest impact, we are decisive, and we take accountability for delivering brilliant customer outcomes
You can strengthen your application by showing how our customer first behaviours resonate with you, and where you may have already demonstrated these.
