Finance Manager - Network Operations

nexfibre is a next-generation fibre broadband company, formed in December 2022 as a joint venture between InfraVia Capital Partners, Liberty Global and Telefónica. We are on a mission to deliver high-speed broadband across the UK on a wholesale-basis that can be used by all retail Internet Service Providers – our network current passes over 2.6M homes. We are backed by a £4.5 billion investment by our investors and banks.

Working closely with our commercial & strategic partner Virgin Media O2, we will create the only national scale fibre to the home network to compete with BT Openreach. We are supporting the Government’s ambition to tackle digital exclusion, deliver nationwide ultrafast broadband rollout by 2030 and level up disconnected communities by investing in the areas we’re building in and acting as a net-contributor.

Job Purpose

This is a wide-ranging senior partnering role within a high-growth scale-up environment. Operating within a small team, this individual will work closely with senior management and gain exposure to nexfibre’s shareholders across a variety of strategic and commercial topics.

This role primarily partners the Technology Operational and Strategy functions, acting as a key link between internal teams and serving as a front-facing point of contact for Finance.

In addition, the role will play a significant part in shaping nexfibre’s operational data vision, utilising business intelligence tools to generate strategic insights that inform decision-making across the business, alongside responsibility for managing and enhancing the company network strategy.

Operating within a scale-up environment backed by blue-chip investors—InfraVia Capital Partners, Liberty Global and Telefónica—and in partnership with Virgin Media O2, the role will support work with both internal and external strategy and investment teams.

Key Accountabilities

Business and Strategy support:

• Provide financial input and co-ordinate the formulation of robust annual budget and forecasts, monitoring progress towards their achievement, as well as updates to the multi-year Business Plan
• Drawing attention to important trends and opportunities to maximise earning and minimise risk
• Partner with key stakeholders to evaluate and execute organic growth initiatives and inorganic opportunities, encompassing operations strategy, wholesale expansion, and M&A

Business Partnering:

• Partner with the technical teams to develop and optimise workstreams, including management of initiatives and incentives with our service provider VMO2
• Conduct regular financial analysis of new and existing services highlighting the impact on business performance and the risks of such products
• Regular update and presentation opportunities directly to SLT on performance highlighting opportunities and potential risks
• Assist the business in analysing variance reports and variations from stated strategies at a business and segment level for both financial and non-financial performance measures
• Working collaboratively and partnering across technical and operational business teams as well as with external stakeholders and advisers.
• Develop and deliver scalable data solutions using BI tools, supporting data owners across the internal and external business ecosystem

Operational Support:

• Review of monthly management report, including provision of commentary on results for designated business partners
• Support billing data and practices: monitor and analyse billing data (e.g. full / no false inclusion, correct pricing), as well as establishing and monitoring billing on an ongoing basis
• Supporting role within Month End process, largely operational input with collaboration from Liberty Blume on Accounting journals
• Perform other assigned duties as and when required

Skills & Experience 

• Degree level education / relevant professional qualifications
• Strong financial modelling and analytical skills (Business case / NPV)
• Excellent communication and project management skills
• Strong track record of partnering with senior stakeholders and executive leadership to influence strategic decisions, drive performance, and deliver business objectives
• Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders across all levels of the organisation.
• Solutions orientated and able to simplify complex matters
• Self-sufficient, comfortable working autonomously as well as in cross-functional teams and proactive in proposing commercial solutions
• Strong commercial acumen, together with the ability and creditability to form effective relationships across all levels, including senior levels of management
• Strong moral/ethical convictions
• Good understanding of the UK Fibre/Broadband market

Desirable Skills and Experience

• Understand financial systems design and internal controls
• High attention to detail: highly analytical and pay strong attention to accuracy of reporting
• Ability to foster a cooperative work environment, demonstrated track record as a team player
• Excellent interpersonal and community relations skills and the ability to communicate and work effectively within a diverse community
• Excellent written & verbal communication skills
• In-depth working knowledge of computerised accounting systems; proven experience with Microsoft office suite product
• Sense of ownership and pride in your performance and its impact on company’s success

Education & Qualifications

• Master or Bachelor degree level qualification
• ACA / CIMA or equivalent
• Approximately 3 years’ experience working in Finance field in a dynamic multinational environment
