⭐Our Internal Controls team

We’re looking for a proactive and experienced Finance Internal Controls Manager to join Monzo on a permanent basis, with a remit focused on driving change, automation and control maturity as Finance continues to scale.

While controls, MI and governance form part of the landscape, the core of this role is reducing reliance on manual processes, embedding sustainable controls through transformation, and supporting complex change across Finance - including ERP evolution and EU expansion.

🔑 You’ll play a key role by...

  • Using tools such as RCSAs and controls MI as inputs to prioritise change, identify control weaknesses, and track the impact of transformation activity, with outputs feeding into Finance governance forums.
  • Driving the transition from manual, workaround-heavy controls to automated, well-designed processes, particularly following ERP change.
  • Designing and automating controls using ERP platforms (e.g. SAP) and data tooling, including the ability to work hands-on with data using SQL and/or scripting (e.g. Python) to replace manual and detective controls with scalable, preventative solutions.
  • Partnering with Finance, Tax, Treasury and Engineering teams to design controls that scale, rather than maintaining point-in-time compliance artefacts.
  • Supporting complex change initiatives (e.g. EU expansion, multi-entity operations) by ensuring controls are embedded as processes evolve, not retrofitted.
  • Using control insights to shape prioritisation, influence design decisions, and improve resilience - rather than operating controls as a standalone activity
  • Ensuring policies, standards and reporting evolve in line with Finance transformation, maintaining a robust control framework without creating unnecessary operational overhead.
  • Providing guidance and support to the business in demonstrating that the appropriate control environment is in place, particularly with ERP changes and EU expansion.
  • Work closely with the second line of defense to enhance Monzo’s risk, controls, and governance framework.
  • Leading and managing strategic projects within Finance to help build and drive financial capabilities across the Bank
  • Collaborating with engineers to automate or enhance recurring processes, driving improved control automation and operational efficiency.
  • This role is expected to evolve over time, shifting focus as Finance matures - from stabilisation and transformation into longer-term optimisation and automation.

🤩 We’d love to hear from you if…

  • You have experience in banking and have a good understanding of key financial controls.
  • You have a great eye for detail.
  • You’re a self-starter and enjoy tackling what needs doing.
  • You’re comfortable translating complex information into simple words for people with diverse backgrounds.
  • You thrive in a dynamic and constantly evolving environment.

🙌 What’s in it for you

💰 £70,600 - £95,500 + Incentive Awards tied to your performance.

📍This role can be based in our London office, but we're open to distributed working within the UK (with ad hoc meetings in London)

⏰We offer flexible working hours and trust you to work enough hours to do your job well, and at times that suit you and your team.

📚£1,000 learning budget each year to use on books, training courses and conferences.

🏡We will set you up to work from home; all employees are given Macbooks and for fully remote workers we will provide extra support for your work-from-home setup.

➕ Plus lots more! Read our full list of benefits.

🌈 The application journey has 4 key steps

  • Recruiter Call
  • Initial Hiring Manager Interview
  • 45 Minute Role Specific Interview
  • 45 Minute Behavioural Interview

This process should take around 2-3 weeks - your schedule is really important to us, so we promise to be as flexible as possible!
