The opportunity 

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Engineering Manager to help shape the future of the engineering, software delivery and building and supporting a high performing team - taking the team you’ll manage to the next level. You’ll help to set the direction of engineering, navigating everything from decision making to implementation, whilst expertly supporting engineers to balance quality, rapid delivery and value with complexity. You will be aligned with the Attest values and role model those values.

You’ll serve as a leader -  mentoring and leading a team of highly competent engineers, through sharing your experience, knowledge and insights.

Salary

£95,000 - £120,000

In person and remote working balance 

We embrace a flexible hybrid work model. While we don't mandate specific office days, we encourage Attesters to work on-site 1-2 days per week, typically Tuesdays and Thursdays. This approach allows us to collaborate in person, while ensuring enough time remotely for deep, focussed work. Learn more about our hybrid working philosophy here.

What You’ll Do…

As an Engineering Manager, you will be at the heart of driving innovation and operational excellence in our engineering team. Your role will include:

Leadership & Team Management

  • Inspire and mentor a team of high-performing engineers, fostering a culture of inclusion, ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Recruit and grow top-tier engineering talent, creating an environment where everyone feels supported and valued.
  • Set clear goals and provide regular feedback to ensure both team and individual growth.

Strategy & Execution

  • Partner with Product, Design, and other stakeholders to define and deliver on the product roadmap.
  • Drive technical strategy to align with business objectives and ensure scalability, reliability, and performance.
  • Oversee project execution to ensure on-time delivery with high quality.

Technical Excellence

  • Advocate for best practices in architecture, design, and coding.
  • Lead initiatives to enhance our engineering processes, tools, and technologies.
  • Promote a strong focus on security, scalability, and performance as the foundation of everything we build.

Operations & Reliability

  • Ensure the availability, reliability, and performance of systems in production, with a focus on minimizing downtime and addressing issues promptly.
  • Build and maintain robust monitoring, alerting, and incident response processes.
  • Collaborate with our infrastructure, data and other engineering teams to ensure smooth and effective system operations.

  • Stay ahead of emerging trends and technologies, ensuring our team is positioned to innovate and adapt.
  • Drive data-informed decision-making, leveraging analytics to optimize processes and improve outcomes.

Specifically this means we’re seeking a dynamic leader who can balance big-picture thinking with hands-on problem-solving. The ideal candidate will have:

  • Proven experience in Generating Outcomes as an Engineering Manager or in a similar leadership role, ideally within a scale-up or fast-growth environment.
  • A strong technical background are comfortable with Embracing Change, with hands-on experience in software development, architecture, and system design.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to Include Intentionally, capable of aligning cross-functional teams and driving consensus.
  • A track record of successfully scaling teams and systems with a Win Together mentality while maintaining a high bar for quality.
  • Familiarity with agile methodologies, CI/CD practices, and cloud-based technologies (we use AWS but we believe skills are transferable from similar products such as Azure and GCP). We want this person to delve into the challenges and Discover Insights. 

This role might not be for you if … 

  • You are looking to be an IC or be hands on with code. This person is there to lead and support. 
  • You want to work in a silo and not communicate and work with other engineers and departments 
  • You want to focus on actions only, this role is for someone who wants to investigate and identify problems and come with solutions
  • You are looking for a role where you can be remote. We believe that the best way to collaborate is in person and so we have regular office days (twice a week) where we can collaborate and come up with new ideas and perspectives together.

£95,000£120,000 GBP

At Attest our engineering roles are levelled. For this particular role we are open to hiring candidates across 2 different levels which is why the range is so broad.
