As an EMEA Payments Lawyer - Vice President within the Payments Business, you will bring your excellent track record in covering EMEA payments products to our team. You will be responsible for interpreting client needs and Payments documentation requirements from information provided by internal business partners. You will use your expertise to provide guidance to Payments product, documentation, client service, implementation, and operations units. This role offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic environment, collaborate with various stakeholders, and contribute to the strategic objectives of the Payments Business.
Job responsibilities

  • Negotiate standard and customized Payments contracts that minimize the risk to the business through strict adherence to policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
  • Review and advise on new business initiatives, product development and product risk reviews relating to Payments including new jurisdictions and locational strategy
  • Advise on legal and regulatory issues affecting Payments products and issues affecting particular client-types including regulated entities such as financial institutions, non-bank financial institutions, pension funds and insurance firms
  • Assist with drafting Payments documentation for, and project managing, client remediation programs
  • Advise the business on legal risks associated with strategic initiatives in Payments
  • Advise on Payments legal entity strategy and regulatory matters governing the bank's cross-border activity
  • Represent the Payments Business in industry and regulatory change forums as appropriate
  • Provide the business with Payments regulatory advice across multiple EMEA jurisdictions
  • Draft and review policies, procedures and other documents related to Payments regulatory compliance and business operations; develop standard agreements for Payments products and services
  • Coordinate and manage engagement of external counsel
  • Close liaison with Compliance and other stakeholders across the bank


Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • A qualified lawyer with not less than 4 years PQE in England and Wales (or equivalent qualifications in other common law jurisdictions) and relevant experience gained within private practice and/or financial institution(s)
  • Payments experience / exposure, including knowledge of regulation impacting this line of business
  • The ability to foster strong working relationships with stakeholders and internal clients and the ability to become a "trusted adviser" to the business that we support
  • Pragmatic with the ability to strike appropriate balance between achieving the commercial goals of the business while protecting the interests of J.P. Morgan as a whole
  • Strong team player with the ability to work within a team of lawyers, coupled with the ability to work independently on transactional matters, as required
  • Confident and proactive with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • English required
