At SharkNinja, we're building an AI-native culture. We're not waiting for the future; we're creating it. Our people are expected to experiment boldly, adopt new tools, and continuously raise what's possible to create meaningful impact for our consumers. If you believe the best way to do your job hasn't been invented yet, you'll fit right in.
About the Role
SharkNinja is seeking an Electrical Safety Technician to play a pivotal safety leadership role within our R&D teams. As the primary safety advocate for electrical work on early-stage prototypes, you will be instrumental in defining and upholding safe working practices from the very earliest concept phase through to validated designs.
This hands-on role sits within the Electrical Engineering team with a dotted line to the EHS department, reflecting the dual nature of the position: technically grounded in electrical engineering, but fundamentally driven by a safety-first mission. You will take ownership of identifying electrical risks in prototype environments, developing safe working protocols, and embedding a culture of proactive safety across development laboratories.
You will work closely with engineers and cross-functional teams to ensure that safe electrical practices are defined, documented, and followed throughout the development process - covering both mains-powered and battery-operated products and aligned with IEC 60335 safety principles. Critically, you will help determine what "safe to work with" looks like for any given prototype, and ensure engineers have the guidance, tools, and procedures to work confidently and safely.
This role is ideal for a candidate with a strong electrical technical background - ideally gained in environments focused on early concept and prototype development - who is ready to step into a safety leadership capacity and make a tangible impact on how SharkNinja manages electrical risk at the frontier of product innovation.
What You Will Do
Safety Leadership & Protocol Development
  • Lead the definition and continuous improvement of safe working protocols for engineers interacting with early-stage electrical prototypes, including risk-tiered working guidelines based on prototype maturity.
  • Act as the primary safety authority for electrical prototype work within the lab - determining when and how a prototype is safe to be worked on, powered up, or tested.
  • Develop and maintain documented electrical safety procedures, safe work instructions, and risk assessments specific to prototype and R&D environments.
  • Drive initiatives to improve electrical safety culture across the development teams, including toolbox talks, safety briefings, and lessons-learned sessions.
  • Collaborate closely with the EHS department to ensure alignment with company-wide safety policies, and contribute to EHS reporting and continuous improvement programmes.
  • Identify and escalate safety risks proactively - translating technical observations into clear, actionable guidance for engineering teams and management.

Prototype Safety Assessment & Technical Support
  • Assess early-stage prototypes to determine safe working conditions, flagging construction risks, unsafe wiring practices, inadequate insulation, or non-compliant component usage before engineers engage with them.
  • Support prototype builds by reviewing, inspecting, and advising on wiring, component selection, creepage and clearance distances, flexible cords, strain relief, and overall electrical construction.
  • Perform and support electrical safety testing including leakage current, dielectric strength, and earth continuity testing as part of routine prototype safety sign-off.
  • Conduct Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) on prototype builds where applicable, ensuring in-scope equipment is tested and recorded in line with safety requirements.
  • Assist with abnormal operation testing such as stalled motors, blocked airflow, and fault simulations, ensuring these activities are conducted within defined safe parameters.
  • Support rapid iteration cycles by diagnosing electrical faults and advising engineers on safe, effective resolutions.
  • Work with battery-powered products, advising on charging system safety, protection concepts, and BMS-related risks.

Compliance, Documentation & Collaboration
  • Build and maintain validation rigs, test fixtures, and temporary laboratory setups in line with defined safety standards.
  • Collect, document, and communicate test results, safety observations, and build feedback to engineering and compliance teams.
  • Support internal safety reviews, pre-compliance activities, and coordination with external test laboratories.
  • Conduct inspection and testing of electrical prototype builds, applying pass/fail criteria for safety sign-off and contributing to pre-compliance readiness at an early development stage.
  • Support evaluations relating to resistance to heat and fire, material behaviour, and construction safety.

What You Will Bring
Safety Mindset & Leadership Capability
  • A demonstrable commitment to electrical safety as a professional discipline, not just a compliance requirement.
  • Experience developing or contributing to safe working procedures, risk assessments, or safety protocols in technical environments.
  • Comfortable acting as a safety authority - able to make clear, evidence-based judgements about electrical risk and communicate them confidently to engineers and stakeholders.
  • Experience working in early-stage concept or prototype development environments where safety frameworks may not yet be fully defined, and where initiative and judgement are essential.

Technical Expertise
  • Strong practical knowledge of electrical systems used in consumer products or household appliances, gained in an R&D, prototyping, or early-concept development setting.
  • Comfortable working with mains voltage, low voltage, and battery-powered systems across varying stages of product maturity.
  • Solid understanding of insulation systems, earthing, leakage current, dielectric testing, and creepage and clearance concepts.
  • Hands-on experience with wiring, prototype modification, electrical rework, and fault simulation.
  • Familiarity with laboratory test equipment including leakage testers, continuity testers, thermal instrumentation, and hipot testing. Experience conducting Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) is desirable.
  • Experience in the inspection and testing of electrical equipment, including applying pass/fail criteria for prototype safety sign-off. Familiarity with IEC 60335 or similar electrical safety standards is advantageous but not essential.
  • Understanding of safety-critical components and how standards influence product design and testing decisions.

Background & Education
  • Qualified electrician, electrical technician, or equivalent - ideally with additional training, certification, or demonstrated focus in electrical safety or EHS disciplines.
  • Experience gained within R&D labs, innovation centres, university research environments, specialist prototype houses, or start-up/scale-up product development companies is highly desirable.
  • Candidates from organisations where early-concept safety frameworks had to be built from scratch - rather than inherited - are particularly encouraged to apply.
  • Experience with consumer products, household appliances, or regulated electrical equipment is a strong advantage.

Personal Attributes
  • Strong attention to detail with an instinctive, safety-focused approach to technical work.
  • Proactive and confident in raising safety concerns, even in fast-moving development environments.
  • Adaptable and resourceful, comfortable operating where processes are still evolving.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate technical risk into clear guidance for engineers, project teams, and EHS stakeholders.
  • Motivated to develop expertise in both electrical engineering and safety leadership, with a long-term interest in making prototype environments safer and more effective.
