The role combines business development, strategic relationship management, transaction structuring and end-to-end execution. You will be expected to contribute directly to portfolio growth, client acquisition, revenue generation and the further expansion of ING Wholesale Banking’s Trade Finance franchise. Whilst the primary focus is Trade Finance, exposure to Working Capital Solutions and broader Transaction Banking products will be considered a strong advantage. This role has Certified Persons status and candidate will be expected to gain this status within first 6 months of employment unless already achieved.

The team
You will join the Transaction Services (TS) team within ING Wholesale Banking, responsible for providing full range of Transaction banking products across ING’s Network and will be a part of the functional FI TS Team, concentrating on providing TS products to FI clients. Within FI Transaction Services, the NBFI franchise is a strategic growth area and plays an important role in expanding ING’s Trade Finance presence among (re)insurance companies, asset managers, private credit funds, private equity sponsors, captives and other institutional investors. The team operates in close partnership with Sector Coverage, Lending, Risk, Legal, Operations and Product Management colleagues to deliver sustainable growth and attractive risk-adjusted returns.

Roles and responsibilities

  • Drive client acquisition and portfolio growth by identifying, originating and converting Trade Finance opportunities with Non-Bank Financial Institutions

  • Develop and maintain senior relationships with CFOs, Treasurers, Investment Professionals and other decision makers, positioning ING as a strategic banking partner and creating opportunities for long-term wallet-share expansion.

  • Originate, structure and execute complex Trade Finance transactions including letters of credit, standby letters of credit, guarantees, collateral-backed structures and risk mitigation solutions tailored to clients’ business models, regulatory frameworks and collateral requirements.

  • Lead transactions from initial opportunity identification through documentation, implementation and post-closing relationship management, ensuring high execution standards and a seamless client experience.

  • Work closely with Coverage, Lending, Risk, Legal, Compliance, Operations, Product Management and teams to deliver commercially attractive transactions while maintaining strong risk discipline and adherence to ING policies.

  • Build and maintain a robust pipeline of opportunities, proactively identifying new sectors, client segments and market developments that can contribute to sustainable revenue growth and improved risk-adjusted returns.

  • Actively contribute to the development of the Global NBFI Trade Finance strategy, providing market intelligence, competitor insights and ideas for product innovation and franchise expansion.

  • Identify opportunities for broader client engagement across ING Wholesale Banking, facilitating collaboration with colleagues across Lending, Financial Markets, Payments and Working Capital Solutions where relevant.

You demonstrate strong ownership, intellectual curiosity and a commitment to continuously improving the client experience while supporting sustainable business growth.

  • Significant experience in Trade Finance Origination, Transaction Banking, Financial Institutions Coverage or a comparable client-facing role.

  • Proven experience originating and executing trade finance transactions with financial institutions, insurance companies, funds, asset managers or other sophisticated institutional clients.

  • Proven experience originating, structuring, negotiating and executing Funds at Lloyd’s, reinsurance letters of credit, capital replacement letters of credit and similar structured letters of credit solutions, with a strong understanding of the underlying client needs, collateral requirements and risk considerations.

  • Deep understanding of guarantees, letters of credit, standby letters of credit and other trade-related risk mitigation solutions.

  • Demonstrated track record of business development, client acquisition, portfolio growth and revenue generation.

  • Ability to build credibility with senior client stakeholders and effectively influence decision making across multiple internal functions.
