Overview of role and responsibilities

Rothschild & Co has invested significantly in its UK Wealth Management business which has resulted in AUM doubling in the last five years and an industry-leading reputation for client service. Part of that success has been the evolution of the Marketing & Business Development (M&BD) function in recent years that has grown in size and capability. That growth and impact has enabled the team to be increasingly seen as a genuine commercial partner to the business and key driver of growth.

The next stage in our growth as a team is to recruit a Director of Marketing Communications to help manage and leverage our brand reputation, align our marketing communications to business objectives, drive greater engagement with clients, prospects and professional advisers that is integrated across our marketing mix and, ultimately, help support greater commercial outcomes with each of those audiences.  

Reporting to the Managing Director, Head of M&BD, this new role will manage and lead the Marketing Communications team which is one of four pillars in the WMUK M&BD team -- the others being Events & Partnerships, New Business (B2C) and Professional Advisers (B2B). The highly inter-connected role will form a M&BD leadership team with the heads of these three other pillars and the Head of M&BD.

We are looking for a strategic and experienced marketing communications professional with expertise gained from within wealth management, financial or professional services who can help take our engagement with clients, prospects and professional advisers to the next level.

The individual could come from a range of backgrounds, including wealth or asset management, investment bank, private banking, professional services and any industries targeting UHNW or HNW individuals such as private wealth law.

Responsibilities include:

  • Oversee the strategic planning and delivery of integrated marketing communications and content, including working closely with all M&BD teams to ensure greater engagement and outcomes with clients, prospects and professional advisers.
  • Oversee the management and use of the WMUK brand, including review of our brand narrative and design collateral to help redefine what differentiates us and have that translate through to new messaging and design (where needed) across all forms of communications, ensuring alignment with our wider Rothschild & Co brand.
  • Oversees market research and analysis to help benchmark perception of us from clients and key target audiences in the market, creating new ideas for the development of our brand and external engagement opportunities.
  • Oversee the delivery of quality content and communications across the client life cycle that reinforce our brand and values and support client retention and referrals.
  • Oversee the delivery of marketing campaigns and content that successful support our new business prospecting strategies with key target UHNW and HNW audiences and with our professional adviser network.
  • Strong focus on performance marketing, ensuring we properly evaluate and deliver ROI on our marketing communications and that we are data-driven in the creation of future marketing campaign and content.
  • Help promote a high performance team culture through wider M&BD team leadership role along with the management of a small team of marketing communications professionals and external agencies or freelancers.
  • Develop strong internal working relationships across the wider Rothschild & Co Group to ensure alignment with wider brand and strategic communications strategy and/or collaboration with different Divisions where needed. Similarly within the WMUK business, developing strong trusted relationships with the Client Adviser group, our Investment team and the M&BD team to ensure a coordinated and collaborative approach to how we use marketing and communications to engage with key audiences.

Experience, Skills and Competencies

  • Proven experience in strategically translating business objectives into marketing programmes with a clear focus on ROI
  • Strategic and commercial thinking with the ability to identify priorities and execute on them
  • Highly product literate across financial markets and investment product set along with marketing tech
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to clearly articulate complex issues
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong team management skills and ability to collaborate in a matrixed structure
  • Excellent team player with a strong drive to deliver exceptional service and commercial results
  • Well-developed influencing and persuasion skills
  • Proactive hands-on approach with the willingness to be adaptable and flexible when needed
  • Attention to detail along with strong organisational and analytical skills
  • Reliable, conscientious with high level of professional integrity
