3363 - Director, Data Strategy, UK (FTC)

Role Summary and Impact 

We are seeking a Director to join our Data Strategy team for our major UK telco client, BTEE.
The BTEE team (aka OpenConnect) is one of the largest UK clients in the agency and the data work on the account is innovative and future-facing, with clients who are data savvy and champion our work across their business.
This role is focused on the Consumer side of the BT Group business and will work across three of BT Group’s sub-brands; BT, EE and Plusnet.

Data Strategy involves transforming the way our clients think about, organize and orchestrate data & technology to deliver more timely, engaging and meaningful brand experience for their customers. 

BT Consumer is a data rich client and that combined with client’s willingness to test and evolve makes for opportunities to do agency leading work. Work is recognised by awards, agency-firsts and also TelCo-firsts for the EMEA market. This role will be part of an agency-team-wide-push to adopt AI and drive innovation to drive client outcomes.


The main focus areas of this role are as below:

Data-led audience and bidding strategy enablement;

  • Using the datasets and technology available to BTEE, lead and oversee the delivery of test, trial and strategy recommendations across paid media campaigns on addressable channels.
  • Working closely with the Transformation lead and ensuring broader strategic workstreams and acceleration projects find a place in campaign activity and are set up in a way that's measurable and methodical.

Technology Project Ownership;

  • As part of the BTEE’s Media Acceleration Roadmap, you will own broader workstreams to drive outcomes across DPAM use-cases, including the client’s roadmap with Amazon Marketing Cloud.
  • You will be part of wider workstreams that bring together the power of WPP as a group, which for example could include working with parts of the business beyond WPP Media, in order to bring new exciting projects to BT.

Cross-functional Collaboration;

  • You will be in charge of Open Connect’s paid media Audience Approach and Audience Playbook, ensuring this stays up to date. 
  • Maintaining Data Strategy ways of working in the campaign cycle with internal agency practices on the BT account plus when activity Media Solutions.
  • Be a conduit between technical and less technical teams within the agency, ensuring alignment on project goals and client objectives and speaking in the correct data language to the clients.
  • Work with the client and embedded agency teams to define, justify and request future signals and data products which can drive the clients business goals. This includes our internal Tech & AI Consulting team and the embedded engineering team at BTEE who build data products for us.

Management

  • This role sits above the development of Data Strategy Associate Director, Data Strategy Manager and a Data Strategy Associate. It will involve light management duties.
  • Each of these three reports will own the Data Strategy input in the campaign process for a specific product vertical. As their manager, you will need to ensure they are producing high-quality work and look to unblock any challenges they have.

Skills and Experience

  • Deep interest in Media & Technology: An understanding of and desire to learn more about data products, AI, technology, and trends within the advertising and marketing industry with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Customer Focus: A relentless focus on client success, with a passion for delivering exceptional client experiences and driving long-term relationships.
  • Communication and Presentation Skills: Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills, as this role hinges on effective interaction with clients and agency partners.
  • Experience managing multiple stakeholders in a matrixed environment.
  • 6+ years digital agency-side working on a data-led role either agency, vendor or client side, with a strong emphasis on digital paid media.
  • Highly developed interpersonal, team building and relationship management skills
  • TelCo experience preferable but not required.
  • Understanding of the importance of privacy first media and what that means for how we need to do things differently.
