Title and Summary

Director Business Development

Mastercard has a vision to build a leadership position as the only truly multi-rail payments technology company and Europe is at the forefront in defining and executing our multi-rail strategy. Commercial payments are a large opportunity for Mastercard in the UK & Ireland.
In this role you will have an opportunity to drive Commercial revenue for Mastercard across Europe.
The role will be driving Large Market Commercial growth for Mastercard locally and across Europe. The focus will be on the development of business opportunities with large national, regional, and global companies and partnership with issuers’ Large Market Corporate sales teams.
The job will require consultative leadership where the individual will establish close working relationships with stakeholders throughout Mastercard as well as partner organizations to drive incremental volume, leveraging our T&E and B2B products and platforms, while meeting strategic product and sales objectives.
Key accountabilities of the role
• Technical Sales lead for CS in the UK bringing together client requirements with Mastercard solutions and partners to drive growth.
• Working as a consultative B2B expert collaborating with the local account management and business development teams and the European Commercial product team, the successful candidate will:
• Closely consult with existing issuers and local market stakeholders to drive new scalable opportunity in commercial payments.
• Establish relationships with large corporations in market to develop sales pipeline and drive demand for Mastercard Commercial products.
• Manage and grow corporate sales pipeline for both T&E and B2B spend.
• Form and manage strong relationships with issuer sales teams focused on Large Market corporates to partner on driving their sales pipeline for B2B and T&E volume.
• Build in-depth corporate payments insight, including understanding of value-chain players, customer pain points and payment/data flows to identify and pursue opportunities to drive Mastercard’s relevance and presence.
• Partner with European Commercial product team to accelerate sale and adoption of Commercial products to corporations.
• Support the creation of market sales plan with clear objectives, strong customer engagement and KPIs.
• Be responsible for alignment of Commercial sales strategies and pipeline management across Europe and globally, coordinating with other regional and global Commercial salespeople.
• Enhance ongoing business development relationships with the industry and corporations by organizing and participating in forums, webinars and conferences in the T&E and B2B space.
• Set Commercial and B2B sales strategy through a segmented approach
towards banks, corporates, and partners.
• Target new issuers and fintech’s that service larger corporate customers
• Act as a mentor and advisor to junior members of the team and supporting onboarding of new BD resources
• Interface and collaborate with the Multinational, Treasury and Transfer solutions teams and act as a point of contact for UK stakeholders from CNPF areas such as SME.
• This is a sole contributor role
All About You
• Excellent Commercial payments experience and knowledge with 10+ years’ experience in the industry is expected.
• Track record of being a trusted advisor with a proven consultative business development approach, especially to the banking sector and large corporates
• Deep understanding of B2B payment flows, business needs and the purchase to pay process in large organisations.
• Demonstrate multi years of success introducing selling existing and emerging B2B commercial
payments solutions.
• In- depth experience creating, executing, and managing business development strategies involving B2B payments, ERP Platforms, P2P technologies and transaction flows considered by the office of the CFO
• Proven ability to build meaningful, trusting relationships with multinational customers & C Level executives.
• Strong collaborator - able to build trusted partnerships both internally and externally.
• Track record in consistently achieving business growth targets.
• Comfortable with roles that require discretion, integrity, and agility
Experiences and other requirements
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills to articulate solutions and value propositions to senior management level stakeholders and customers.
• Outstanding ability to work collaboratively and deliver results in a highly
cross-functional environment.
• High self-motivation and ability to work autonomously; “can do” attitude;
strong customer and results orientation.
• Fluency in English with other languages highly preferable
• Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or other post graduate degree desirable
