A great fixed-term opportunity for an experienced subeditor who is confident working with digital outputs.

About Monocle

Monocle is an independent media brand that has built a global reputation for its coverage of international affairs, design, travel, fashion and more. Launched in London in 2007, the business has grown to include our magazine, daily newsletters, a round-the-clock radio station and international events, as well as thriving shops, e-commerce and cafés. With HQs, bureaux and retail outposts in Paris, Zürich, Tokyo, Merano and Hong Kong, we are a truly global team and proud to be a vital source of inspiration, analysis and ideas for our discerning global audience.

About the role

The subediting team is a critical part of the Monocle editorial team: every word that the public sees under the Monocle banner goes through the subediting desk, from the stories in the magazine and on the website, to the daily newsletters, descriptions of our radio programmes and the menus in our cafés.

Reporting to the deputy chief subeditor, this role has a specific focus on website, digital newsletters and online communications, working closely with editors, writers, the photography desk and wider digital team. You will also update and maintain Monocle’s digital editions and City Guide, and provide support across the wider subediting team.

This role is a fixed-term contract for nine to twelve months and works on a Tuesday-Saturday work pattern.

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Confidence in the use of content management systems and software
  • Excellent technical skills including grammar, spelling, writing and fact-checking
  • Knowledge of media law and journalistic standards
  • Ability to quickly adapt to the Monocle tone and style
  • A team player who collaborates and is committed to producing high-quality work at a fast pace
  • Attention to detail, initiative and a proactive approach

We value collaboration and interaction with our colleagues and our clients. We work on unique, global projects alongside our enormously talented international team. This role is based in our Marylebone office and we offer the following benefits:

  • Discounts at The Monocle Café and Shop
  • Breakfast provided five days a week
  • Health and life insurance benefits
  • 23 days annual leave, 7-day Christmas shutdown and 8 bank holidays
  • Dog friendly office

Our team is ambitious, talented, professional and committed to excellence in everything they do. Please note that all applicants must have the right to work in the UK.
