Location: Hybrid - Borehamwood

Package: Negotiable + Benefits

1 Year Fixed Term Contract

Brown & Brown Europe is building long-lived, product-led squads with end-to-end ownership of the services they create. You will work in a collaborative engineering environment that values practical delivery, automation, security, quality, learning and continuous improvement.

The day to day:

You will work hands-on within a cross-functional squad to build, support and improve secure cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation and live-service reliability. This is a mid-level role for someone able to take ownership of defined DevOps work, with support from senior engineers and platform specialists where needed.

Key responsibilities:

  • Build, maintain and improve Azure DevOps pipelines for build, test, release and deployment activity.
  • Support reliable and repeatable deployments across development, test and production environments.
  • Contribute to infrastructure automation using agreed Infrastructure as Code patterns and standards.
  • Work with engineering squads to improve deployment confidence, environment reliability and delivery flow.
  • Help embed security, quality and operational checks into pipelines and release processes.
  • Use monitoring, alerting and logs to understand service health and support incident investigation.
  • Troubleshoot build, release, environment and platform issues, escalating complex problems early.
  • Maintain clear technical notes, runbooks and support information for squad-owned services.
  • Take part in planning, refinement, stand-ups, retrospectives, demos and operational reviews.
  • Contribute practical ideas that improve automation, resilience, security and developer experience.

How we work:

  • Work in a long-lived, product-led and stream-aligned squad with clear service ownership.
  • Follow a Build and Run model: design, build, test, deploy, monitor, support and improve squad-owned services.
  • Use a transparent, prioritised backlog and deliver value incrementally through a regular agile cadence.
  • Take part in planning, refinement, daily collaboration, reviews, retrospectives, demos and showcases.
  • Use Definition of Ready and Definition of Done, including testing, security, documentation and operational readiness.
  • Automate build, test, security assurance, deployment and repeatable environment activity wherever practical.
  • Release in small, safe increments and use feedback and delivery data to improve.
  • Work within shared architecture, cloud, security and platform guardrails.
  • Use approved engineering and AI-assisted tools with appropriate security controls and human review.

Our technology environment:

  • Cloud: Microsoft Azure, Azure services, monitoring, security and platform guardrails.
  • Tooling: Azure DevOps, Git, repositories, branching, pull requests, YAML pipelines and release automation.
  • Automation: Infrastructure as Code, environment provisioning, scripting and repeatable operational processes.
  • Engineering: .NET, React, APIs, automated testing and integration with squad delivery workflows.
  • Practices: CI/CD, monitoring, secure delivery, incident learning, continuous improvement and Build and Run ownership.

About you:

  • Commercial experience in DevOps, cloud engineering, platform engineering or a software engineering role with strong automation exposure.
  • Practical experience with Azure DevOps, Git, CI/CD pipelines and release processes.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Azure and cloud-based application environments.
  • Experience with scripting or automation, such as PowerShell, Bash or similar.
  • Understanding of Infrastructure as Code concepts and repeatable environment management.
  • Awareness of secure delivery practices, secrets management, access control and operational risk.
  • Ability to troubleshoot build, deployment, environment and service issues in a structured way.
  • A collaborative communication style and confidence working with developers, QA, Product and support colleagues.

How this role is distinct:

  • Owns defined DevOps, automation and cloud engineering tasks with a good level of independence.
  • Supports squad delivery by improving pipelines, environments, deployment confidence and operational readiness.
  • Is supported by Senior Engineers, Tech Leads and platform specialists for complex design decisions and major changes.

The rewards:

  • A negotiable basic salary and all the usual benefits you would expect, including holiday and a company pension
  • A collaborative, open and honest environment designed to deliver the best outcomes for our clients and teammates
  • A flexible working
  • An environment built around supporting and developing our teammates, with funding available for relevant professional qualifications
