About Us:

ClearRoute is an engineering consultancy bridging Quality Engineering, Cloud Platforms and Developer Experience. We help enterprises reliably bring high-impact digital products to market faster, cheaper, and safer, working with technology leaders facing complex business challenges.

We take as much pride in our people, culture and work-life balance as we do in making better software. We’re not just making better software. We’re making the making of software better. Collaborative, entrepreneurial and dedicated to problem solving, we bring the step change our customer need to sustain innovation. Our values challenge us to do the best we can for ClearRoute, our customers and most importantly our team. This is an opportunity for you to build the organisation from the ground up, use your voice to drive change and help transform organisations and problem domains.

Role:

You will support, improve, and modernise the DevOps Toolchain by delivering secure, auditable, and supportable capabilities that enable a wide range of users to deliver software safely and effectively.

This role is fundamentally collaborative. You will work in active partnership with developers, citizen developers, information security, audit, risk, compliance, platform teams, and other enterprise users. Solutions are designed with these communities, not handed down to them.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, build, and evolve DevOps platform capabilities in direct partnership with developers, citizen developers, and control functions.

  • Provide third-line support for CI/CD platforms, build agents, and self-hosted tooling.

  • Represent operational, security, audit, and risk requirements as first-class design inputs.

  • Drive automation, reliability, and continuous delivery practices.

  • Facilitate consensus across communities with differing priorities, proposing pragmatic, risk-aware solutions.

  • AI Assisted Engineering

  • Design and operate AI assisted DevOps capabilities such as AI supported CI/CD, testing, quality, and operational automation.

  • Ensure AI enabled solutions are transparent, explainable, secure, and auditable.

  • Apply emerging AI capabilities pragmatically, aligned to enterprise policy and risk appetite.

Ways of Working

This role builds tooling with teams, not for them. You will facilitate co-design, avoid hand-off driven delivery models, and ensure developers, citizen developers, and control functions are active contributors throughout design and delivery.

Required skills and experience:

  • Strong experience with DevOps platforms, CI/CD, Kubernetes, cloud infrastructure, and automation.

  • Demonstrable experience working directly with developers, citizen developers, and control functions (information security, audit, risk, compliance) as design partners, jointly designing solutions rather than operating through hand-offs or post-delivery review cycles.

  • Experience operating in regulated enterprise environments with strong audit and governance expectations.

Tools - Enterprise Admin Level Experience:

  • Claude Code (or equivalent agentic coding tools): enterprise onboarding, access control, governance, safe rollout, and operating model.

  • GitHub Enterprise Cloud and build agents (AKS based self hosted, GitHub hosted), GitHub Copilot: organisation and repository administration, policy enforcement, RBAC, audit logging, runner fleet management, secure defaults, and AI assistant governance.

  • Azure DevOps Services and agents (VMSS, AKS based, Microsoft hosted): organisation and project administration, pipeline governance, service connections, secrets management, approvals and gates, and agent fleet lifecycle management.

  • Terraform: enterprise infrastructure as code operating model including module strategy, state management, policy as code, secure identity patterns, drift detection, and auditable change control.

  • Octopus (or equivalent deployment orchestration): environments, tenants or spaces, permissions, production deployment controls, and release traceability.

  • SonarQube: enterprise administration, project provisioning, quality gate strategy, token management, CI integration, and meaningful shift left quality enforcement.

  • JFrog Artifactory and XRay: repository architecture, retention and lifecycle management, RBAC, vulnerability and licence policy configuration, pipeline integration, and exception handling with audit evidence.

  • Checkmarx (or equivalent SAST): enterprise scanning configuration, RBAC, pipeline integration, policy configuration, exception workflows, and developer friendly feedback loops.

Success Measures

High adoption and trust across developer, citizen developer, and control communities. Reduced operational toil through automation and AI assisted workflows.
Improved platform reliability, auditability, and developer experience at scale.
