As a Developer Relations Engineer, you'll create technical content and engage with the ML community while representing Encord in various events and fostering partnerships.
About Encord
Encord is the universal data layer for AI, helping 300+ AI teams train and run models on the right data. Our platform indexes, curates, annotates, and evaluates data across the full AI lifecycle - from development through production. Trusted by Woven by Toyota, AXA, UiPath, Zipline, and more.
We're an ambitious team of 100+ working at the frontier of AI and have raised $110M in total funding, including a $60M Series C led by Wellington Management, with participation from CRV, Next47, Y Combinator, and others.
The Role
Encord has earned the trust of ML engineers and researchers who care deeply about data quality. We're now hiring a Developer Relations Engineer to build on that at scale.
This is a technical role first. You'll be embedded in the ML and data engineering communities, helping craft technical content and building relationships that help practitioners genuinely level up how they think about training data, model evaluation, and the full data lifecycle. Whether that's a hands-on tutorial, a conference talk, an integration demo - you'll meet ML/AI engineers where they are.
What you'll do
- Create technical content - tutorials, notebooks, integration guides, video walkthroughs, and technical blog posts that showcase real-world applications of Encord across data curation, annotation, and model evaluation workflows. You'll own a consistent publishing cadence and produce work that gets cited and shared by practitioners
- Be a community presence - engage authentically with ML engineers, data scientists, and AI practitioners online (X, LinkedIn, Discord, GitHub etc.) and at in-person events
- Run and attend events - represent Encord at conferences, meetups, and hackathons; plan and host your own workshops and developer sessions in London, the SF Bay Area, and beyond
- Build partnerships - develop relationships with complementary open-source projects, ML tooling companies, and DevRel teams to co-create content and integrations
- Close the feedback loop - act as the voice of the developer community internally, with a direct line to product and engineering to surface insights that shape product direction and documentation
- Track what works - set clear objectives aligned with the GTM team and take a rigorous, data-driven approach to measuring the impact of everything you ship
Who we're looking for
- A strong background in ML, AI, or data engineering — hands-on experience building in these domains, not just familiarity with the terminology
- Understanding of why data quality matters for model performance and enjoys helping other developers improve their craft
- At ease reading and discussing research papers and ML tooling docs
- Metrics-driven with a systematic approach to prioritising initiatives
Experience requirements
- 3+ years of software engineering experience with a strong background in ML, AI, or data pipelines
- An existing presence in the ML or data community — a newsletter, a GitHub repo people use, a social following, or anything that shows you've already been doing this
- Demonstrated ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly in writing, in code, and in person
- Experience working with ML workflows: model training, data labelling, evaluation, or adjacent areas
- Bonus: experience with agentic AI systems, computer vision, or multimodal data; background in developer tools, open-source, or ML infrastructure; or experience speaking at a conference, running a hackathon, or organising a technical workshop
Why Encord
- Competitive salary, commission, and equity in a high-growth startup
- Strong in-person culture — most of the team works from our London office 4+ days/week
- 25 days annual leave + UK public holidays
- Annual learning & development budget
- Travel for customer visits, events, and conferences across the UK and Europe
- Company lunches twice a week
- Monthly socials & bi-annual team offsites
