Work Set Up: Hybrid
Clearance Required: BPSS + SC. Active SC clearance must be with a government agency and have been used within the last 6 months, or be a Home Office SC

Our client in the Information Technology and Services industry is looking for a Senior Database Administrator (DBA) with deep expertise in AWS Aurora, Amazon RDS, and PostgreSQL to lead the design, operation, optimisation, resilience, and recovery of critical database platforms. The successful candidate will be a hands-on technical expert, actively involved in architecture decisions, database design, performance tuning, data reconciliation, and operational support.

What you will do:

  • Lead the architecture, design, and implementation of enterprise database solutions on AWS.
  • Design and maintain database schemas, data models, indexing strategies, and database standards.
  • Drive database resilience, high availability, disaster recovery, and business continuity capabilities.
  • Define, implement, and test backup, recovery, failover, and disaster recovery processes.
  • Participate in architecture reviews, technical governance, and design authority decisions.
  • Optimise database performance through query tuning, execution plan analysis, indexing, and configuration improvements.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex production database issues.
  • Perform data reconciliation, integrity validation, and root cause analysis of data discrepancies.
  • Manage database upgrades, patching, security, monitoring, and capacity management.
  • Collaborate with architects, developers, cloud engineers, and operational teams to deliver scalable and resilient solutions.
  • Produce and maintain technical documentation, standards, and operational procedures.

 

Qualifications

  • Bring extensive experience as a Senior Database Administrator or Database Subject Matter Expert, with expert knowledge of AWS Aurora, Amazon RDS, and PostgreSQL.
  • Demonstrate strong database architecture and solution design experience, including highly available and resilient database platforms.
  • Demonstrate extensive SQL development, query optimisation, and performance tuning expertise.
  • Bring strong knowledge of database schema design, indexing, and data modelling.
  • Demonstrate experience with database backup, recovery, replication, failover, and disaster recovery.
  • Bring hands-on experience troubleshooting large-scale production database environments.
  • Demonstrate experience leading data reconciliation and data quality activities.
  • Bring strong knowledge of AWS services, including IAM, CloudWatch, KMS, VPC, and Secrets Manager.
  • Demonstrate experience with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform or CloudFormation and CI/CD practices.
  • Demonstrate strong stakeholder management, communication, technical leadership, and collaboration skills.
  • Hold AWS Database Specialty or AWS Solutions Architect certification as an advantage.
  • Bring experience with MySQL, SQL Server, MongoDB, or Redis as an advantage.
  • Demonstrate experience working in highly regulated or public sector environments as an advantage.
  • Hold active SC clearance with a government agency used within the last 6 months, or hold Home Office SC clearance.
