Role: Data Governance Lead (12 month FTC)

Location: London

Position: Full time, Fixed Term

We are looking for an experienced Data Governance Lead to own the evolution of the data management capability for our Enterprise Data Platform (EDP).

In 2026, we have successfully delivered a Databricks pilot that established the foundations of our data management capability, including Unity Catalogue, Microsoft Purview integration, metadata management, business glossary, data ownership and data quality. The next phase of the programme is to mature these foundations into a scalable, production-ready capability that supports the long-term growth of the platform.

This role will be responsible for defining the vision, requirements and design for data management across the Enterprise Data Platform. Acting as the bridge between business stakeholders and our delivery partner, you will translate business needs into governance and data management requirements, make key design decisions, and ensure the implemented solution supports trusted reporting, analytics and AI capabilities.

While our delivery partner will configure and implement capabilities such as Unity Catalogue and Microsoft Purview, you will own the functional design, approve solution decisions, ensure alignment with enterprise standards and drive adoption across the business.

As the platform matures, you will also formalise the supporting operating model, standards and governance processes to ensure the capability is sustainable and aligned with the wider MS Amlin data management framework. You will ensure the Enterprise Data Platform's data management framework provides the trusted metadata, governance and business context required to enable responsible, secure and effective AI solutions.

About The Job

What you’ll spend your time doing:

Data Management Strategy & Design

  • Own the vision, roadmap and continuous improvement of the Enterprise Data Platform data management capability.

  • Define the functional design and business requirements for metadata management, business glossary, data lineage, data quality, ownership, stewardship and data products and make key decisions.

  • Own the Enterprise Data Platform data product strategy, including governance, ownership, lifecycle management and standards.

  • Define enterprise naming standards, metadata standards and governance principles for data products and datasets.

  • Develop pragmatic approaches for data privacy, data classification and information management in collaboration with security and privacy teams.

  • Ensure governance capabilities support downstream reporting, analytics and AI use cases, including Databricks Genie.

Solution Design & Delivery

  • Act as the product owner for the data management capability, defining requirements and priorities for delivery.

  • Work closely with the delivery partner to design the implementation of Unity Catalogue, Microsoft Purview and related governance capabilities.

  • Review governance-related deliverables and support testing and acceptance of implemented capabilities.

  • Capture lessons learned from the pilot and subsequent deliveries, continuously improving governance standards and platform capabilities.

AI Implementation

  • Ensure metadata, data quality, lineage, ownership, classification and business context are captured and maintained to enable trusted AI use cases and support AI-ready data products (working closely with the Amlin AI function for guidance).

Business Engagement

  • Act as the primary interface between business stakeholders and the delivery partner for all data management and governance activities.

  • Facilitate workshops with business users (working with an analyst) to define business terminology, critical data elements, ownership, metadata requirements and data quality rules.

Enterprise Data Management

  • Ensure alignment between the Enterprise Data Platform and the wider MS Amlin data management framework, operating model and governance initiatives.

  • Define roles, responsibilities and processes that support sustainable governance without creating unnecessary overhead.

What you’ll need:

Essential

  • Experience designing and implementing enterprise data management or data governance capabilities for modern cloud-based data platforms.
  • Experience acting as the business or functional lead for governance tooling implementations such as Microsoft Purview, Collibra or equivalent.
  • Strong understanding of metadata management, business glossaries, data catalogues, data lineage, data quality, ownership, stewardship and data products.
  • Experience defining business requirements and translating them into technical solutions delivered by engineering or implementation partners.
  • Experience working with delivery partners or system integrators to design, review and approve governance solutions.
  • Strong stakeholder management and facilitation skills, with experience working across business and technical teams.
  • Experience developing governance standards, naming conventions, metadata models and data quality frameworks.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and build consensus.

Desirable

  • Experience with Databricks and Unity Catalogue.

  • Experience with Microsoft Purview or Collibra.

  • London Market insurance experience.

  • Previous consulting experience with a leading technology consultancy.

  • Experience working within Azure cloud environments.
