Fuse Energy is an energy startup on a mission to make energy abundant and affordable, fast. We combine first-principles thinking with cutting-edge technology to build a radically better energy system. We've raised over $200M from top-tier investors including Balderton, Lakestar, Accel, Creandum, Lowercarbon, Ribbit, 20VC, Hummingbird and Collaborative Fund, alongside strategic angels including Nico Rosberg and GPs behind Meta, Revolut, Spotify and Uber. We're building a fully integrated energy company: developing our own solar, batteries and other generation projects, building our own hardware, improving and developing grid infrastructure, trading power in real time, using AI across the business, and installing distributed energy in homes. By selling directly to consumers we cut out the middleman, lower costs and pass the savings on to our customers.

We’re currently searching for a Data Centre Design Engineer to join the team. In this role you will design the mechanical and electrical backbone of the next generation of AI data centres, working on high-density GPU infrastructure where the engineering challenges are among the hardest in the industry. You’ll own detailed design from the Basis of Design through to commissioning and handover, and build reference and modular designs that let us deploy rapidly and repeatedly across UK and international markets. We’re a fast-moving team that values hands-on builders over bureaucracy. If you want to see your work energised on site, not just on paper, this is the role.

Responsibilities
  • Lead detailed design of our data centre projects (mechanical or electrical, depending on background), including layouts, schematics, calculations, schedules and construction drawings
  • Develop the Basis of Design and set our design standards, adapting them to local codes, utility requirements, site conditions and customer specifications across UK and international markets
  • Challenge conventional approaches and develop innovative solutions for high-density GPU infrastructure that shorten time to compute
  • Build reference designs, modular designs and engineering guides that make deployment rapid and repeatable
  • Manage design changes, tracking decisions, open issues and impacts through to resolution
  • Support site works, commissioning and handover as needed

Requirements
  • Experience in mechanical or electrical design in data centre or critical facilities environments, with working knowledge of the relevant systems (e.g. cooling, chillers and PUE/WUE for mechanical; MV/LV distribution, UPS, switchgear, generators and earthing for electrical)
  • Experience across data centre design and construction stages, with an understanding of resilience and Tier levels
  • Proven ability to produce detailed design, including calculations, schematics, single-line diagrams and construction drawings; AutoCAD/Revit, BIM and energy modelling or CFD experience desirable
  • Familiarity with on-site construction, installation or commissioning work is desirable
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or a related discipline (or equivalent experience); chartered status is a plus

Benefits
  • Competitive salary and eligibility for equity
  • Biannual bonus scheme
  • Fully expensed tech to match your needs
  • Private health insurance
  • Breakfast and dinner allowance for office-based employees

As we hire globally, benefits vary by location.
