Responsibilities

What you’ll be doing on the Data & Analytics Development Programme – Internal Audit

Our Data & Analytics Development Programme has intakes in September 2027.

During the programme, you’ll join high-performing teams that combine data insight, audit expertise and independent assurance to support better decisions across Nationwide.

You’ll start with an Internal Audit induction and training academy, including a dedicated data training pathway. From there, a structured three-year journey will help you develop into a specialist data auditor through professional study, technical learning and real audit experience.

Career development conversations will support your progress, while a programme buddy will provide consistent support across your rotations. Your line manager will change with each rotation, and you’ll be part of a wider programme cohort overseen by Internal Audit Strategy & Operations.

The first year builds a strong foundation in internal audit, alongside time with the Internal Audit Data Insight Team to develop analytical capability. Mentoring and professional study will support this initial stage of your development.

In year two, you will join a different Internal Audit delivery team to further develop your audit and data skills. This experience will deepen your understanding of Nationwide and show how evidence and insight support robust audit conclusions.

The final year includes a short secondment in another area of the business, followed by a return to Internal Audit to take on greater responsibility and prepare for a potential future Principal role.

No two days are the same. Activities could include analysing data, reviewing processes and controls, meeting stakeholders, discussing findings with an audit team and developing data insights that support audit conclusions.

Modern technology will be an important part of the experience. Depending on your work, this could include using Databricks, Python, SQL and AI-enabled audit solutions to investigate complex risks, generate insight and support better decision-making.

The programme develops highly transferable skills in analytics, audit, stakeholder management, data, communication and problem solving. Its varied, project-based pace combines structured audit delivery, stakeholder commitments and ongoing learning. A professional audit qualification is included, alongside hands-on technical data training throughout the programme.
