Creative Lead

Salary: £65,000 per annum, plus company benefits

Location: City of London

Contract: Full time, permanent

Shifts: 37.5 hours per week worked Mon– Fri, 9am-5:30pm with a 1-hour unpaid lunch break

Purpose of role 

Williams Lea is seeking a Creative Lead to support the management of our on-demand design centre, working onsite at one of the world’s leading investment banks.

The successful candidate will have experience leading and mentoring creative teams while delivering innovative, high-quality design solutions that meet client expectations. You will play a key role in driving the creative direction of an established design department by offering fresh ideas and alternative approaches to traditional pitchbooks and marketing materials produced by onsite document production and graphics teams.

Your responsibilities will include producing graphics and artwork using a variety of software tools to service all departments, creating design concepts and art working for marketing campaigns, brochures, advertisements, event and conference collateral. Additionally, you may be involved in multimedia projects such as branded HTML emails, animations, presentations, and web publishing.

This role requires close collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to ensure all design output is of the highest quality and aligns with our core focus on delivering exceptional corporate information.

Key responsibilities 

  • Meeting clients to discuss the business objectives and requirements of the job
  • Interpreting the client's business needs and developing a concept to suit their purpose
  • Thinking creatively to produce new ideas and concepts
  • Demonstrating illustrative skills with rough sketches
  • Project management, pre-empting issues, coordinating artwork, print and delivery, web-work
  • Design and art working from initial creative concepts through to final delivery
  • Presenting finalised ideas and concepts to clients
  • To liaise with external suppliers of services to ensure that work meets exact requirements as specified
  • To guide and advise other members of the team in the design and use of template material, providing training where necessary
  • To work with other designers both onsite and offshore to ensure that the quality of the work they produce is up to the required levels
  • To follow clearly defined department workflow processes including quality control and pre-flight checking
  • To punctually complete time-sheets, work tickets and to give an accurate reflection of time spent on all projects

Personal attributes

  • Formally design trained with a relevant qualification in graphic design
  • An excellent knowledge and experience of printing techniques and issues
  • Able to develop compelling concepts and offer innovative design solutions within tight corporate design guidelines
  • Experience of estimating, project management, print buying and scheduling
  • Creative flair
  • Confidence to present and articulate ideas to clients and colleagues
  • The ability to balance work on several projects at a time

Technical skills

  • Expert level Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe illustrator
  • Intermediate Flash, Adobe Premiere and Dreamweaver
  • Good familiarity with PPT, Excel and Word
  • Strong Acrobat skills including advanced functions
  • Pre-Press: highly experienced and expert at checking of files before sending to printers, including complex cutter guides, measurements and colour set up

  • Design Skills - strong level of technical and creative design knowledge

  • Client Focus - must demonstrate a client focused approach to providing a service through personal commitment to the client and their business. Should build effective client relationships based on trust, flexibility and a professional approach and be able to deal confidently with clients.
  • People skills - must demonstrate good 'people skills' and keep clients informed of progress and the processes involved.
  • Project/Time Management - excellent time management skills, Designer will be required to manage several projects on a daily basis, with the ability to prioritise and delegate (add information)
