Content and Publications Lead

Contract: Permanent

Working hours: Full time - 35 hours per week. However, where possible, we are open to considering part time/flexible working patterns. Please let us know in your application your desired working pattern.

Salary: From £49,200

Location: London Exchange Tower, Canary Wharf (hybrid)

Reporting to: Senior Content Manager

By joining our team, you'll enjoy the best of both worlds – hybrid working and collaboration within a modern and well-appointed office environment in Canary Wharf, with at least four days across a fortnight in the office. You’ll be working within a large multi skilled communications team with extensive opportunities for personal and career development.

About Us:

The Financial Ombudsman Service is an independent, not-for-profit organisation that plays a vital role in UK financial services. Every day we help resolve disputes between consumers, or small businesses, and their financial service providers. 

You’ll play an important role within our Communications team explaining our work clearly and credibly to a national audience. The team is focused on strengthening the impact of our long‑form publications and thought leadership this year, helping build confidence in our service and influence better practice across financial services.

What You’ll Do:

As Content and Publications Lead, you’ll take ownership of high‑impact, long‑form written content that supports our statutory role. You’ll support on the development of major reports, publications and content pieces, turning complex insight and data into clear, engaging narratives. Working closely with colleagues and stakeholders, you’ll manage content projects end‑to‑end and provide expert editorial guidance to ensure everything meets our tone, accessibility and quality standards.

This is a standout opportunity to shape some of the organisation’s most visible and influential content. You’ll have real ownership, senior stakeholder exposure and the chance to create content that genuinely informs, influences and builds trust. To be considered for this role, you’ll need to show us that you’ve got the skills and capabilities. You’ll have to meet the following minimum criteria:

Minimum Criteria:

  • Long form writing and editorial experience: Demonstrable experience writing, editing and proofreading high quality long form content, gained in roles such as external communications, editorial, copywriting or similar.
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly: Proven ability to interpret complex or technical information and present it clearly and accurately for different audiences, using plain language and where appropriate, data, numeracy or evidence-based insights.
  • Strong project management capability: Experience managing content projects end‑to‑end, including coordinating multiple contributors, balancing competing priorities and delivering to tight deadlines in fast‑paced environments.
  • Stakeholder and senior engagement and influencing skills: Demonstrable experience working with senior leaders and diverse stakeholders across teams or organisations, influencing effectively and providing clear editorial advice or recommendations.
  • Digital and audience focused content awareness: Understanding of how audiences engage with content across digital channels, including familiarity with accessibility principles, plain English standards, and the fundamentals of digital content strategy and SEO.

It would also be nice for you to have

  • Experience of working in Government or Financial Services is beneficial, but this is not essential
