Join the EMEA Subsea Sales Engineering team and contribute to the advancement of submarine networking solutions across key customer accounts and strategic business opportunities. This role drives technical leadership throughout the pre-sales lifecycle, supports solution innovation, and helps position Ciena's submarine portfolio in a competitive global market.

How you will make an impact:

  • Lead technical engagements for submarine customer opportunities across tender, contract, bid, and clarification activities.
  • Deliver technology workshops, demonstrations, trials, proof-of-concepts, and technical discussions aligned to customer requirements.
  • Design and validate submarine network architectures, solution designs, equipment layouts, test plans, procedures, and customer-facing documentation.
  • Develop RFx responses, solution cost models, pricing schedules, and engineering documentation for sales opportunities.
  • Evaluate technology alternatives and network design trade-offs to achieve technical and commercial objectives.
  • Collaborate with sales engineering, account, product management, R&D, partner, and technical teams to execute opportunities and support market readiness.
  • Recommend product enhancements and new features based on customer requirements and field feedback.

The must haves:

  • Education: Bachelor of Engineering or equivalent field of discipline. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience: 10+ years in the telecommunications industry related to DWDM (Layer 0) optical transmission systems, optical engineering concepts, technologies, instrumentation, and test methodologies.
  • Experience: 5+ years in a submarine-specific role with direct involvement in an upgrade project, including application of submarine SLTE and SIE solutions.
  • Application of Converged Optical Ethernet (Layer 1/2/3) systems and technologies including OTN, Carrier Ethernet, and IP.
  • Utilization of Layer 0 optical test equipment including Optical Spectrum Analyzer (OSA), SONET/SDH/Ethernet/OTN test sets, and Optical Time-Domain Reflectometer (OTDR).
  • Application of optical test equipment, link budgeting concepts, and fibre-optic impairment analysis including attenuation, CD, and FWM.
  • Knowledge of 100G, 400G, 800G, and higher-rate coherent optical technologies and modulation concepts.

Nice to haves:

  • Experience on consortia upgrade projects.
  • Building network cost models that optimize subsea and terrestrial network designs.
  • Understanding of data centre architectures, spine-and-leaf designs, edge networking, and optical transport.
  • Application of automation software architectures, common workflows, ZTP methods, DCN networking, APIs, and networking models.
  • Familiarity with cloud architectures and deployment of applications in cloud environments.
  • Construction of product feature and price analysis spreadsheets.
  • Knowledge of Ciena Submarine Solutions.
