Description

Constructor is a rapidly growing AI-powered product discovery platform that powers search, browse, recommendations, and personalization for some of the largest e-commerce retailers in the world.

We're looking for a business-minded attorney with deep experience in European data protection law and technology transactions to join our legal team as Commercial and Privacy Counsel. You'll be the second member of Constructor's Legal team, working alongside the Head of Legal and collaborating daily with sales, partnerships, people ops, marketing, procurement, and engineering teams to support Constructor's growing EMEA customer base.

The ideal candidate is a pragmatic, business-oriented lawyer who can move fast, manage competing priorities, and translate complex regulatory requirements into clear, actionable guidance.You'll own the legal support for Constructor's EMEA customer relationships, help drive regulatory compliance across our platform, and stay ahead of evolving regulatory frameworks as they take effect. In this role, you will report to the Head of Legal.

Responsibilities
  • Draft, review, and negotiate SaaS customer agreements (including MSAs, Order Forms, DPAs, NDAs, and AI addendums) for Constructor's EMEA customers.

  • Support deal structuring and commercial strategy for Constructor's enterprise sales pipeline across EMEA markets

  • Partner with the Head of Legal and COO to build scalable legal processes, policies, and training for a growing international business.

  • Help drive Legal team efficiencies, including developing and maintaining contract templates, playbooks, and self-service resources, and exploring process automation.

  • Serve as a trusted legal advisor on GDPR, ePrivacy Directive, NIS2, EU AI Act, and other applicable European and Middle Eastern privacy laws (including PDPL)

  • Advise product and engineering teams on privacy-by-design principles related to Constructor's collection and use of data.

  • Manage Constructor's data protection compliance program for EU/UK operations, including ROPA maintenance, DPIAs, and responding to data subject access requests, and advise on cookie and tracking compliance under the ePrivacy Directive/

  • Monitor emerging AI regulatory developments across EU member states and the UK, advise leadership on their impact on Constructor's products and commercial operations, and action compliance efforts..

  • Track and assess legislative and regulatory developments across key European markets that may affect Constructor's products, environmental sustainability practices, data practices, or commercial operations

  • Support Constructor's EU/UK employment law needs.

 
Requirements
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English

  • Law degree from an accredited institution in the EU, US or UK

  • Qualified to practice law in at least one EU member state, US or UK

Preferred Qualifications
  • 5-10 years of legal experience, with meaningful time spent on European data protection and commercial technology transactions

  • Experience serving as in-house counsel, ideally at a technology or SaaS company

  • Familiarity with AI products and related legal and contracting issues.

  • Strong negotiator who can balance legal risk with commercial objectives in a fast-paced environment

  • Comfortable working autonomously in a remote-first environment.

  • Demonstrated experience drafting and negotiating enterprise SaaS agreements

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, prioritize effectively, and manage a diverse workload with shifting priorities.

  • Strong working knowledge of GDPR, UK GDPR, and the ePrivacy Directive

  • Hands-on experience running privacy programs, including advising on data processing activities, international data transfers, ROPAs, DSARs, incident response planning, and DPIAs

  • CIPP/E certification or equivalent data protection qualification

  • Proficiency in at least one additional European language

  • Experience in a high-growth, start up environment, working on a lean legal team
