About Motorway

Founded in 2017, our award-winning, technology-led approach has redefined the experience of selling a car. Motorway is backed by some of the world’s leading technology investors, having raised £143 million in Series C funding.

This is a unique opportunity to join a fast-growing scale-up at a crucial phase of growth and help change an industry for the better.

The Role

The Business Operations Manager works directly with the VP of Seller Operations to define, prioritise, and deliver strategic initiatives that improve how Motorway operates, grows, and delivers value to our sellers.

This is a high-impact, dynamic leadership role focused on solving critical operational and commercial problems across the entire seller journey. You will be responsible for defining and managing the implementation of initiatives that improve the end-to-end seller experience, launching new solutions, and optimising existing processes. You will combine deep analytical thinking with robust program management to drive conversion, improve customer experience, reduce operational costs, and increase automation across the business.

The scope of this role is intentionally broad and highly cross-functional. You will partner closely with senior stakeholders across operations, product, engineering, finance, marketing, and commercial teams to develop joint plans, align priorities, and execute complex solutions.

Motorway moves quickly and operates in a constantly evolving environment. This role suits a strategic operator who thrives in ambiguity, possesses natural commercial curiosity, and excels at taking ownership of messy, complex problems and turning them into structured, scalable solutions.

We’re looking for someone who instinctively looks for smarter ways to get things done, whether that is redesigning a process, automating manual work or using AI / Tooling to solve problems.

Location: Based in London, with a requirement to travel to our Brighton office once a week.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the definition of long-term improvement plans across Motorway operations, clearly articulating how these initiatives will enhance the overall seller experience.

  • Deep dive into operational, financial, and product data to diagnose problems, build financial models, and uncover both short-term quick wins and long-term strategic opportunities across the seller journey (from enquiry through to post-sale).

  • Lead major new and existing initiatives from concept through to delivery, taking full responsibility for the realisation of business case goals and course-correcting as required.

  • Coordinate and drive delivery across partner teams (including product/tech, marketing, finance, and commercial teams), setting clear KPIs and phased goals to ensure all stakeholders meet their deliverables.

  • Define, prioritise, and track initiatives that drive measurable impact across revenue, CX, and cost, establishing robust tracking frameworks and success metrics.

  • Drive automation and process improvements to reduce manual work. Actively explore and apply emerging technologies, including AI tools, to improve workflows, decision-making, and operational scalability.

  • Simplify highly complex operational problems and translate them into clear, actionable roadmaps and business cases for senior leadership and cross-functional partners.

What You’ll Have
  • Experience in business operations, management consulting, or a strategic growth role, with a demonstrable history of taking initiatives from idea to execution.

  • Strong capability in analysing data, building financial models to prioritise opportunities, and translating metrics into strategic decisions.

  • Exceptional stakeholder management skills, with the ability to coordinate, align, and drive accountability across diverse teams like product, marketing, and finance.

  • High levels of ownership, pace, and adaptability. You thrive in fast-changing environments and can structure vague problems into clear execution plans.

  • You actively explore and use AI tools to supercharge how you think, analyse data, and execute work, and you are excited about applying these tools to solve real business problems.

  • A mindset focused on ROI, KPIs, and business case realisation, always balancing operational efficiency with an exceptional seller experience.
