Position Title: Business Development – UK Institutional

Business Title: Associate Director/Director

Role Overview

To further develop and execute the business development and capital raising effort of the UK & EMEA Sales team with a focus on the UK Institutional market, supporting all aspects of Barings investment capabilities. The role is based in London with a focus upon both direct client sales and consultant relations. Experience will be required with Institutional Clients or Consultants. Experience is preferred within the Insurance and Defined Contribution markets but is not a pre-requisite. You will be expected to raise the brand awareness and profile of Barings in the market and provide a senior access point for clients to connect with Barings’ investment capabilities and support functions.  3- 10 years experience of business development within the UK Institutional market is required.

Principal Responsibilities

Business Growth and revenue generation

  • Associate Directors/Directors are responsible for supporting the generation of revenue and supporting new initiatives that will help leverage the breadth of Barings skill set and support the strategic perspectives and vision.
  • Associate Directors/Directors should be familiar with how the firms’ profile and vision can drive new business concepts, and help align this to demand shifts and investor trends in channels and areas of focus.
  • Associate Directors/Directors should be able to articulate a good working knowledge of the operational procedures and technical capabilities of Barings to our clients, partners and key internal and external stakeholders.

Conduct and Culture

  • Associate Directors/Directors should foster, encourage and support an environment of high conduct and professionalism.
  • To support teams and encourage inclusion and engagement amongst staff to support and uphold the firm’s values and culture.
  • To identify and address conflicts to use conflicts or disagreement as an effective opportunity to provide support to mentor staff and colleagues to create an environment that supports and upholds Baring’s culture.

Communication

  • Associate Directors/Directors should be able to communicate effectively across peers and direct reports the visions, cultures and goals of the firm.
  • Provide clear guidance and articulate the firms vision to achieve the long term objectives.
  • To acknowledge sensitive matters of communication and feel empowered to escalate when required.

Professional Development

  • Keep technical, regulatory and personal skills and knowledge up to date, maintain records to evidence how this has been achieved

Experience Required

Core Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of the UK Institutional market.
  • Insurance/Defined Contribution experience is also beneficial
  • In-depth knowledge of key competitors and the broader competitive landscape in the region
  • Knowledge of local market trends and relevant products
  • A good working knowledge of the legal and regulatory provisions associated with the role

Core Skills

  • Proven sales experience, meeting or exceeding sales targets within assigned client franchises
  • Proven ability to drive the sales process from plan to close
  • Excellent internal and external communications skills
  • Excellent listening, negotiation and presentation skills
  • Ability to build and improve personal relationships with a diverse range of people/personalities
