Job Purpose:

We are building a market-leading, AI-enabled specialty insurer.

As Business AI Lead, you will personally design and run AI experiments that test where emerging tools can create measurable advantage in underwriting, claims and operations.

This is a hands-on role. You will work directly with AI tools, rapidly prototype solutions, and partner with business teams to validate what works. You are responsible for turning promising ideas into working capabilities — and for stopping work quickly where value is not proven.

This role reports to the Head of Innovation.

Key Responsibilities:

Experimentation & Prototyping (Core of the Role)

  • Identify practical use cases where AI could improve decision-making or workflow efficiency

  • Design and run structured experiments to test hypotheses

  • Build working prototypes using modern AI tools (LLMs, retrieval workflows, structured outputs, agent patterns)

  • Evaluate output quality, reliability and business usefulness

  • Iterate rapidly based on feedback from users

Hands-On AI Application

  • Work directly with AI platforms and tooling to test capabilities

  • Apply techniques such as embeddings, retrieval-augmented approaches, prompt design and tool use

  • Explore new AI tools and assess their practical enterprise relevance

  • Develop lightweight evaluation approaches to compare performance and suitability

Business Collaboration

  • Work closely with underwriters, claims handlers and operational teams to understand real problems

  • Test prototypes in live or near-live workflows

  • Translate user feedback into iterative improvements

  • Help users understand limitations, risks and appropriate usage

Responsible & Secure Use

  • Ensure experiments respect data security and governance requirement

  • Document assumptions, constraints and control considerations

  • Design solutions that are explainable and auditable where required

Skills and Experience Specification:

Technical & Practical Capability

  • Hands-on experience building with LLM-based tools

  • Practical understanding of retrieval-augmented workflows, structured outputs, prompt design and agent-style interactions

  • Strong prototyping capability (Python or similar)

  • Comfort working across multiple AI platforms and adapting quickly

Ways of Working

  • Experimental mindset with bias toward action

  • Comfortable operating in ambiguity and evolving toolsets

  • Strong ability to translate business problems into testable AI experiments

  • Clear communicator who can explain both capability and limitation
