GoCardless processes US$130bn+ of payments annually, across 30+ countries; helping customers collect and send both recurring and one-off payments, without the chasing, stress or expensive fees. We use AI-powered solutions to improve payment success and reduce fraud. And, with open banking connectivity to over 2,500 banks, we help our customers make faster, more informed decisions.

We are headquartered in the UK with offices in London and Leeds, and additional locations in Australia, France, Ireland, Latvia, Portugal and the United States.

At GoCardless, we're all about supporting you! We’re committed to making our hiring process inclusive and accessible. If you need extra support or adjustments, reach out to your Talent Partner — we’re here to help!

And remember: we don’t expect you to meet every single requirement. If you’re excited by this role, we encourage you to apply!

The role

GoCardless are seeking a self-motivated, curious, and inspired brand designer to join our design team.

We are at an exciting point in our journey, expanding our brand footprint and enhancing our product experience. This role is ideal for a proactive designer who is excited to contribute to a growing design team and make a significant impact in shaping the future of the GoCardless brand.

Must have skills:

  • Must have: You are native in Figma, but are especially excited about building systems that optimise for scale and automation, whether within Figma or not. You are comfortable in InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop and preparing assets for production.
  • AI: You are familiar with and enthusiastic about the role AI plays in design. Whether generating assets, using it to expedite processes or building your own tool, you see its use as a force multiplier.
  • Art direction: As well as someone who is excited about solving technical challenges, we are looking for applicants with discerning visual taste who are comfortable in applying that judgement across a spectrum of disciplines and channels — whether you are working on, an email nurture campaign, a global marketing campaign, a product launch or headline event, your sense for what good looks and sounds like, shines through.

Desirable skills:

  • Familiarity with motion design tools (such as After Effects, Jitter, Cavalry, Rive or equivalent): Experience in creating micro animations and interactive elements is important for us.
  • Curiosity about emerging design tools: As the tech stack of a designer (more so now than ever) seems to be in constant flux, we are looking for designers that are excited about constantly evolving their skillset and exploring novel ways of working.
What excites you
  • Tangible impact: You will have the unique opportunity to create a tangible impact at a company that has achieved significant scale. At GoCardless, you'll experience substantial autonomy, empowering you to push beyond the obvious solutions and innovate without the constraints typically found in large organisations.
  • Clarity from complexity: You care deeply about users, possess the ability to distil complex, ambiguous concepts into simple user-centric designs. This skill is essential in creating effective designs that resonate with our audience and enhance their experience of our products.
  • Digital products and technical innovation: We are a product led company. So, we want you to be excited by digital products and technological advancements, both in how they can help bring variety to the design process, but also through the lens of evolving conventions (such as user experience and interface design).
What excites us
  • Visual craft and attention to detail: You care deeply about presentation, demonstrating a passion for the craft of design, going the extra 10% to elevate designs beyond “good enough”.
  • Business acumen: An understanding of the balance between desirability and delivering. You are always mindful of company objectives, knowing when it is appropriate to ship a product and when to pause for iteration. Your design decisions are informed not only by creativity but also by business goals and user needs.
  • Project and stakeholder management: You are confident at managing multiple projects and stakeholders simultaneously.
  • Adaptive problem solving: As an adaptive, self-starting designer, you approach projects with a flexible mindset, continuously striving for improvement.
  • Team collaboration and humility: We value humility and appreciate the power of teamwork. As a team player, you are willing to engage in all aspects of the design process, including the less glamorous tasks that contribute to the overall success of the team.
  • Experience and portfolio: We are looking for designers with 2+ years of experience either within an in-house team (beneficial if coming from a VC backed technology company) or a respected branding agency. Your portfolio includes relevant case studies to the role specification and showcase your ability to design at a consistently high level across a variety of channels and media types.
What you can expect to work on

This role will sit within our Global Growth team where you will work closely with content and marketing stakeholders to drive organic sign ups. Your main focus will be on creating engaging paid and organic social media assets that showcase our brand and attract our target merchants. Additionally, you’ll work on:

  • The evolution of the GoCardless brand
  • Acquisition campaigns across our entire addressable market (including digital ads, landing pages, events and targeted, bespoke direct mail)
  • In life growth (Lifecycle) marketing campaigns
  • Product launch campaigns
  • Events
  • Design operations (optimising how we work)
