About your team: 

You’ll be working centrally within our mission control room, aka Centrica’s group functions. From Finance and Data Science, to our Wellbeing and People teams - this is the engine of our energy system, where our various Centres of Excellence power up each of our brilliant businesses, ensuring they have all the support, technologies, and capabilities they need to get our customers to Net Zero by 2050.

A key role working in the Group Business Performance Management team of Centrica plc, a FTSE100 company with strong brands across energy services and solutions.

The purpose of the BPM team is to provide deep insights on business performance to enhance decision making. The vision is to be a centre of excellence, recognised as a high performing, engaged team at the heart of the Group; a trusted partner to all stakeholders and an aspirational team to work in. This will be enabled by a set of efficient and streamlined processes that drive value in the business and which leverage accurate data and value add insight to articulate drivers of business performance, whilst sharing best practice with the wider business BPM teams.

To deliver on this we’re looking for individuals with experience in FP&A and Finance partnering, who have the ability to interrogate, analyse and derive insight from data and who possess an inquisitive and curious mindset with a passion for driving operational excellence.

Location - Windsor with flexible home working

Accountabilities

  • Develop strong relationships with key stakeholders in the Finance teams to enable a thorough understanding of the business performance, issues and processes
  • Own financial analysis and insights on Group performance, with clear articulation of drivers (operational and financial) and levers to optimise for value
  • Communicate insights to key stakeholders across the business and management level
  • Monitor and report on R&Os with articulation through drivers and insights
  • Support the wider business BPM finance teams to drive forward operational excellence and best practice
  • Be a champion of automation for improved efficiency and increased insight
  • Carry out non-standard / bespoke analysis to support business decision making
  • Lead the month end process and work collaboratively with the business finance teams to ensure timely delivery
  • Lead core Group finance processes such as month end, forecasting (LV, LV+), planning (GAP), Strategic Plan (Shape), Interims, Prelims etc, working collaboratively with all stakeholders
  • Regularly review and report performance against prior year, Group Annual Plan and latest view, working with the business to analyse financial and operational (value driver) variances

Skills and Experience

  • Previous partnering / FP&A finance experience in a large organisation
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills – ability to pro-actively develop positive and highly effective working relationships, engaging key stakeholders as necessary to achieve desired outcomes
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Well organised, meticulous individual with a keen eye for accuracy and desire to achieve a high standard of output
  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills – ability to translate complex financial analysis and synthesise data to provide clear and concise insight that is driver led
  • Strong communication skills to enable articulation of performance
  • Continuous improvement mindset and approach – provide challenge for change by seeking out value opportunities and driving initiatives critical to continuous improvement / operational effectiveness
  • Strong excel skills, ideally with experience of Microsoft tools such as Power BI and Power Query, and experience in dealing with large datasets building financial models and analysing associated data
  • Curiosity and questioning mindset to aid understanding of performance drivers
  • Capable of managing multiple tasks in a high-pressure environment and managing/prioritising work effectively to meet deadlines

Education

  • Accounting qualification (ACA / ACCA / CIMA)
  • 5+ years of post qualification experience
