Job Description

We are seeking an Azure Solutions Architect to join Legal & General Retail and play a key role in shaping and delivering enterprise-grade cloud infrastructure and platform solutions across both Azure and AWS. This is a highly impactful opportunity to support the organisation’s transformation journey, enabling strategic outcomes across all Retail product lines and domains. The role is accountable for the end-to-end design of cloud infrastructure and associated services, ensuring solutions are secure, resilient, scalable, compliant, and cost effective.

The successful candidate will define and articulate a clear target state cloud architecture, providing direction and guidance to delivery teams across a diverse technology landscape to ensure successful execution. Working in close partnership with engineers, architects, security, risk and compliance teams, as well as senior business and IT stakeholders, the role requires excellent communication skills, strong structured decision making, and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving challenges.

    What you'll be doing:

    • Producing end to end Azure infrastructure solution designs, ensuring alignment to both functional and non functional requirements including security, resilience, performance, compliance, and cost
    • Collaborating with engineering and delivery teams to align component level designs with the broader architecture and ensure adherence to enterprise principles and target state
    • Communicating architecture decisions, rationale, and trade offs to stakeholders and governance forums, supporting informed decision making and consistency across the portfolio
    • Partnering with Product Owners, Business Analysts, and Technology Leads to translate business outcomes into robust and scalable infrastructure requirements
    • Facilitating and participating in design reviews to ensure alignment to target state and supporting the definition of comprehensive testing and assurance strategies
    • Supporting estimation and planning activities by working closely with engineering teams to validate and refine delivery plans and infrastructure requirements
    • Coordinating deployment activities across Azure and integrated platforms, ensuring safe change practices, automation, and repeatable deployment models
    • Driving shared accountability for successful technology delivery by working in close partnership with project and programme leadership teams

    Who we're looking for:

    • Holding a relevant degree or equivalent experience, with TOGAF or similar architecture certification desirable and strong preference for Azure certifications such as AZ‑305 or AZ‑104; security certifications such as CISSP, CCSP, or SC‑100 advantageous
    • Demonstrating deep experience in delivering end to end solution architecture within complex enterprise environments, supported by clear and structured high level design documentation
    • Exhibiting strong knowledge of integrating legacy, COTS, SaaS, and custom applications, underpinned by robust cloud and infrastructure connectivity patterns
    • Bringing hands-on expertise across Azure core architecture, including subscriptions, management groups, policy, RBAC, and resource organisation, alongside serverless, PaaS, container, and managed service capabilities
    • Possessing advanced understanding of cloud networking, identity, and security, including VNets, Private Link, ExpressRoute, Entra ID, conditional access, and enterprise security controls such as Key Vault and Defender for Cloud
    • Demonstrating capability in building resilient, observable, and scalable platforms, with experience in AKS, application services, monitoring, disaster recovery, and Infrastructure as Code using tools such as Terraform or Bicep
    • Proven track record of delivering large scale, multi year technology initiatives, working within agile environments, and integrating third party services in regulated or risk aware industries
    • Exhibiting strong professional attributes, including clear communication and visual storytelling, effective stakeholder facilitation, attention to detail, and a proactive, collaborative approach to problem solving and continuous improvement

Whatever your role, we reward performance and behaviour with a package that looks after all the things that are important to you. Here are some of the benefits we offer:

    • The opportunity to participate in our annual, performance -related bonus plan and valuable share schemes
    • Generous pension contribution
    • Life assurance
    • Healthcare Plan (permanent employees only)
    • At least 25 days holiday, plus public holidays, 26 days after 2 years’ service. There’s also the option to buy and sell holiday
    • Competitive family leave
    • Participate in our electric car scheme, which offers employees the option to hire a brand-new electric car through tax efficient salary sacrifice (permanent employees only)
    • There are many discounts we offer – both for our own products and at a range of high street stores and online
    • We’re creating net‑zero carbon workplaces by 2030 by investing in our sustainable, modern offices across the UK, all designed to bring people together and elevate the in‑person experience
