Job Description

Investment Operations Associate

UK Investment Operations  ·  IG Group  ·  Hybrid (London, 3 days in office)

About IG

IG is a FTSE 100 fintech operating across five continents, serving over 1.3m customers and handling billions of dollars in transactions – built on scale, trust, and proof. We didn't pivot to innovation; it's how we've always operated. What that means for the people who work here is real: genuinely complex problems to solve, the technology and resources to tackle them properly, and the kind of scope that's rare in established businesses. The bar is high – bring a curious and forward-thinking mindset and we'll give you the platform to define what comes next. Join us at IG – the future gets built here.

Your Team

Our UK Investment Operations team is responsible for running, controlling and improving the investment services IG offers. As an Investment Operations Associate, your role will span across investments and share dealing operations: IG Smart Portfolios, our managed portfolio service for UK investors delivered in partnership with BlackRock, and our share dealing platform, where you will work alongside the product team to help deliver a world-class investment experience. We are growing our investment range into thematic investing and you will be involved in building that out.

This is a hands-on operational role. You will support the day-to-day management of our model portfolios, own the monthly reporting cycle, and act as the investment point of contact for queries escalated from our client-facing teams. You will also contribute to client-facing investment material.

The role sits at a crossroads between product, marketing, compliance and the operations team. You will act as the bridge between these groups, making sure operational requirements are understood, changes are coordinated, and nothing falls between the cracks as our investment services grow.

Your role in the Team's Success

Portfolio operations

  • Supporting day-to-day management of the model portfolios across risk profiles, ensuring each stays aligned to its mandate, target risk band and strategic asset allocation
  • Running portfolio rebalancing operations
  • Contributing to ETF selection and ongoing due diligence

Client experience and operational support

  • Acting as the investment subject matter expert for our client experience teams, supporting queries across Smart Portfolios, share dealing and incentives
  • Working with asset servicing and technology teams so that system changes are specified, built and tested correctly, with no regressions to portfolio or trading workflows

Risk, attribution and performance reporting

  • Maintaining and developing our portfolio risk and volatility models, including the covariance matrix, ex ante volatility and risk decomposition across asset classes and risk profiles
  • Producing performance attribution, breaking down returns by asset class, building block and allocation decision
  • Owning the monthly reporting cycle and delivering accurate, timely analytics to internal stakeholders and governance forums
  • Improving our reporting frameworks and analytical tooling to make them more accurate and more efficient

Investment commentary and client material

  • Writing the monthly investment commentary on markets, portfolio positioning and performance
  • Producing client investment material, including educational content, market reviews and communications
  • Updating performance charts for marketing material each month
  • Making sure all commentary and client-facing material passes compliance sign-off before release

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

Essential

  • Excel modelling skills, and familiarity with Bloomberg
  • Familiarity with ETFs and an understanding of core risk metrics such as volatility, tracking error and risk contribution
  • Clear written English, with the ability to explain investment performance to a retail audience
  • Care and accuracy in operational work, with sound judgement about when to escalate

Nice to have

  • IMC candidacy or progress towards it
  • Experience in share dealing operations or investment operations
  • Experience of performance attribution or risk reporting in a multi-asset or model portfolio setting
  • Data and dashboarding skills, for example Tableau, Looker or similar tools
  • Experience in a customer-facing role within retail investments or trading brokerage, with an understanding of friction points and what good customer experience looks like
  • Knowledge of corporate actions operations
  • Experience in model portfolio management and investment reporting processes
  • Experience of working with compliance on client-facing material

What you'll need

You care about how investment processes are built, not just that they work today. You hold yourself to a high standard when it comes to accuracy and control, and you are not satisfied with a process that merely gets the job done if it could be made more robust or more efficient. When something looks right on the surface, you still ask whether there is a gap underneath.

You are naturally curious and collaborative, and you look at existing workflows with a view to optimising them rather than accepting them as given. You spot operational risks before they become problems, whether that is a manual step that should be automated, a data source that is not being validated, or a handoff between teams where information could be lost. You raise these proactively and work with the people around you to fix them.

This role sits in a fast-moving business and it will stretch you. We are looking for a self-starter who wants to challenge the status quo rather than inherit it, and who embodies our three core values: champion the client, learn fast together and raise the bar.

HOW YOU'LL GROW

Your personal and professional development matter to us. You will be actively involved in every part of the investment process and will build real depth in portfolio operations, risk analytics and investment writing. You will develop your data analysis skills through client trend analysis, and produce market updates and commentary for IG clients and for the media.

The perks:

  • Competitive salary
  • Flexible benefits package (12% on top of salary)
  • Performance-related bonuses
  • Private medical cover
  • Life insurance
  • Contribution to gym memberships
  • 25 days holiday + birthday off + 2 volunteering days
  • Option to buy or sell holiday days
  • Unlimited LinkedIn Learning access
  • Career-focused technical and leadership training
  • Enhanced parental leave and support
  • Employee-led networks (LGBTQ+, Women’s, Black, Parents & Carers)
  • Matched giving for fundraising
