JOB SUMMARY

You will play a critical role in analysing and responding to client audits. In this growing team you will gather data for fieldwork, and use your analytical skills to effectively support data-driven rebuttals to client audits. You will develop processes to allow Kobalt to respond to audit enquiries at a faster cadence, ensuring our clients are paid correctly.

To be successful in this role, you will need a high level of organisational and prioritisation skills, as well as a proven ability to quickly adapt to new exciting challenges. You will turn complex royalty questions into clearly scoped analytical projects. You will be comfortable making sense out of very large datasets, and communicating complex concepts in a  digestible format. 

In your day-to-day, you will take ownership of all analytics requests focused on client audits, communicate with auditors on various matters including commencement materials, fieldwork documents request, and audit reports. 

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leverage 3rd party data to strengthen our rebuttals and counter dubious claims
  • Extract and explore data confidently using SQL and Excel for fieldwork requests.
  • Communicate with stakeholders across the business to build cases for rebuttals
  • Identify, analyse, and promptly escalate critical issues or insights to senior stakeholders and decision makers. Provide a clear, data-backed rationale for escalation, including potential impacts, recommended actions, and any necessary follow-ups to ensure timely and effective resolution.
  • Internal audit of quarterly royalty/statement processes
  • Other duties at the time of statement generation

Essential Criteria:

  • Proven experience in a royalty audit function, working with large amounts of data and/or big data
  • Advanced Excel and SQL skills 
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to consolidate and analyse information from several sources into a coherent story
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Curious nature, with a strong ability to quickly learn new concepts

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS

  • Within 3 months have a working understanding of Kobalt’s databases and third-party data sources which are available to answer audit claims.
  • Within 6 months be autonomously running sections of the audit process and with support from external stakeholders leading large investigations.
  • Within a year have the knowledge and confidence to be running multiple audits concurrently and suggest methodologies to improve response times to rebuttals. 
  • Delivering data-lead, accurate, robust rebuttals to audit reports.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience working within Music is preferable but not essential. You are curious to learn about publishing and royalty revenue streams
  • Excellent communication skills with experience telling compelling data stories
  • Can-do attitude and strong project management capabilities
  • Innovative solution-driven mindset with a keen desire to create, improve, and automate
  • High level of attention to detail.
